Jags predicted "under the radar" to make playoffs

Quote: I don't remember that one. My memories of the Jags/ Lions are of Garrard coming in and winning a game in OT with a TD pass play to Jimmy Smith or Alvis Whitted, IIRC. That was 2004-ish. Quote:Frustrating indeed, yet the pure football fan in me feels privileged having seen some of the greats over the years. Completely agree. One of the great benefits of being a season ticket holder, even through the tough times, was the fact that we got to see some of the greatest of this era to ever put on a helmet. That play you referenced by Favre is one that really sticks in my memory as well. I think Bortles will provide us with moments like that for a long time to come. Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
Quote:Frustrating indeed, yet the pure football fan in me feels privileged having seen some of the greats over the years. 1998 was the first year I was working. I could afford tickets and the team offered 3 game packages. The three I bought were Detroit, Miami and Tampa. It was great to see Barry Sanders and Dan Marino in person. And the Jags won all three games. Quote:But we all know the coaches are not going to rush him and he must earn a promotion. He's already earned the promotion. Quote:I don't think the record or how Henne plays will dictate when Bortles takes over. It all speaks to Gus' credibility with his team. Everything he preaches is about competition and improvement. He cannot say what he's been saying all spring and then pull the plug on Chad before he's given a legitimate shot of helping the team win, but he also cannot keep Blake on the bench if he's clearly the better QB.
If something can corrupt you, you're corrupted already.

I think the QB situation is unique in the fact that Henne understands very clearly what his role is on this team. He understands that he's basically keeping the seat warm until Bortles is ready to go. The QB competition is between Bortles, the playbook, and his mechanics. It's not between Bortles and Henne. I think Gus understands this, and that his credibility is completely intact. The only way I can see Henne's performance impacting the switch is if Chad goes out there and plays lights out, and the team hits the ground running and winning. At that point, you let the hot hand go, and Bortles gets to sit back and watch. Do I think that will happen? Not likely. We'll get the same Henne mediocrity, and the transition will wind up being a quiet one. Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

If it was being determined by who's the better QB, Bortles would already be the starter.
We're walking that fine line in regards to attempting to win games vs. preparing for next season.
I think our long term center (Hroniss Grasu) is playing in Oregon right now so we can watch him on Saturday. Just wish we could fast forward to 2015 ......

Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."
Quote:right on schedule.... What? the truth?... The state of the OL right now is almost certainly whats holding back Bortles from starting, given how impressive and consistent he's looked otherwise. Quote:Its really a shame that we didn't land Mack.Probably. We'll never know. We were never going to land Mack. Cleveland assured us of that from the start. Never argue with idiots. Quote:I don't remember that one. It was relatively late in the 1998 season...the week before the Jaguars clinched the division. I remember being upset with Coughlin because Brunell got injured on a play where the protection called for Pete Mitchell-NOT a blocking TE-to slide over and block the Lions' DE (I want to say Robert Porcher). Brunell hurt his ankle on the play and missed the next game or two. Worst to 1st. Curse Reversed!

They would appreciate that opportunity. Casual fans...not so much. Worst to 1st. Curse Reversed!

Hosting Miami and Tampa for the first time (and both of them were playoff caliber teams) was an absolute blast, and to this day rank as some of the most exciting atmospheres I've ever experienced at the stadium. Worst to 1st. Curse Reversed!

They would appreciate that opportunity. That was always my main point of emphasis when talking to people who were on the fence about buying tickets. They would talk about not wanting to waste the money to watch a losing team. I figured even if the Jags were losing, there was something to watch, and if we had an opportunity to see guys who potentially wind up in Canton, that makes it all worth the money. Casual football fans would never get that. Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
Quote:What? the truth?... As much as it should be the (only) reason, You know darn well it isnt. After our preseason Center blues, I think everyone wished we snagged mack. Give our GM credit for seeing this problem before we did and atleast made a valiant attempt to land him We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! Casual football fans would never get that. Not only that, but you will never know when you can bear witness to the absolutely amazing. In 1995...seeing Favre...watching Joey Galloway reverse field twice on us and score...1996...being in the stadium and not bearing to watch as a 3 win Atlanta basically outplayed us the entire game got into chip shot range for Morten freaking Andersen...only to have him miss. 1997...the first Monday Night game against Pittsburgh, seeing the crowd go nuts as that last FG was blocked, and walking down the ramps seeing Steelers' fans carry victory cigars that remained unlit. The river city relay...and the missed extra point... To me, it's NFL football. I don't need convincing to buy tickets. I'm fortunate enough to be able to go. I'm there if I'm healthy. Worst to 1st. Curse Reversed!

Its similar thinking to why the Buccaneers made that deal for Mankins.
I can still remember how still the NEZ was as Andersen queued up for that kick. We sat in 217 at the time, so we were in the corner and didn't have a good angle on the kick, so I just watched the reaction of the people behind the goal posts. As soon as that section erupted, so did the rest of the stadium. The ball hadn't even gotten to the net yet. Incredible moment.
Agreed. There is nothing better than NFL football, even if your home team happens to be downright awful. Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
