An above average QB would make us playoff contenders.

Quote:Double digit sacks for 3 straight years prior to his injury.. if he's healthy, he'll be a baller. And if they throw in Babin on the other side occasionally on 3rd down you'll see some improvement from him too.
improvement from a 34 yr old Babin? Nah, Branch is the one u will see improvement from

You're absolutely right, there is too many holes..

In Blaine Gabbert/Chad Hennes brain if you don't think a decent QB would seriously elevate our level of competition you're dead wrong, We were -6 in turnover differential, our QBs combined for 21 Interceptions! 21! In my mind an above average QB does not throw 20 interceptions, even 10 is a lot in my eyes.. let's say we got a guy who could lower that number to 12, which is still not great but it's a great start from 21.. that would put us +3 in the turnover department. That's huge, turnovers are BIG. Now let's take a look at Passing TDs, we had 14 ALL year from our QBs (and 2 from non QBs, which averaged out to 1 TD per game through the air which is absolutely pathetic. Give me a guy who can throw at the very least 20 TDs and you're looking at BIG improvement from our offense.

Now tell me again how an above average QB combined with a weak division combined with a soft schedule doesn't = possible playoff contension.

If you think Branch is good I instantly remove all credit from anything you say from this point forward. The guy has had maybe 2 sacks in his career that he actually beat an O linemen to get to the QB, the rest have been him running free either by design or by a mess up by the O line. He's fast, i'm not debating that but he's not good.. at least not yet. And yes Babin can improve, any player can improve from having a solid player on the other side of them. Ask Paul Kruger, I seriously hope he splits his big salary with Terrel Suggs.

If you honestly didn't see marked improvement in Branch last year, all credit from anything you say from this point forward has been removed.

Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Improvement in his stats? Yes. In his play? No. He had more sacks in his rookie year where he actually beat his guy to get to the QB.

This isnt about whicch players are good its about improvement, Branch is the one u will see improvemenr from not Babin. Suggs was hurt most of the year in the SB run when Kruger looked his best

So, do you think Jay Cutler or Matt Ryan would have made us Playoff Contenders last season?   I don't.    The initial 8 games could not have been won by an above average QB.

Yes I do actually. I don't think we lose to Ten, Colts twice, Buffalo, Oakland etc.

We would have been 8-8/9-7 at the very least with those guys.

Atlanta has more than a decent QB.  You do understand that football is actually a team sport, and that when you have more talent surrounding a QB, he tends to do better, right?  It's not really a difficult concept to grasp.  Atlanta's offense was better top to bottom than the Jaguars was last year.  One player was not going to get this team 4-5 more wins.

Matt Ryan type behind center last year = 6 maybe 7 wins.

This year is anyone's guess - but 8-8 seems very possible with QB play that never dips below "solid."

Henne played "above average" in a few quarters of a few games last season and the rest of the time he ranged from "liability" to "average."

Atlanta had no WRs left due to injury, no run game and a bad offensive line.

What's the remind you of? Btw he still put up pro bowl numbers

And somehow they still weren't in contention for the playoffs.

What was this thread about, again?

When's the last time Jags had a average qb? Henne,Gabbert,Luke McCown,Garrrard,Leftwich  all sucked.

They are in a division with the Saints and Panthers.. and in the NFC, we could have made the wildcard with 9 wins.. they needed 11+

With Ryan we would have beaten Oakland, Split with Colts, Swept Tenn, Rams, and Bills

That takes us from 4-12 to 9-6

I'm not sure if we would have been in the playoffs but we would have been contenders.

Also that's just throwing out the bad teams, we could have possibly beaten Arizona/KC

Offense gets the glory but defense wins championships. A good QB alone will not get you far.  Go ask Dan Marino, Drew Blesoe, and many other good QBs who have no ring.

I doubt the Jaguars take any games against the colts until we land more than just an above average quarterback, and I think it's silly to call Matty Ice "above average" when he's made the playoffs most of the years he's been in the league.
