What Jaguar Coaches are saying about the 'Big 3'.

Quote:And if in 5 years Teddy is playing like say... Rodgers, and Bortles is playing like Gabbert how do you feel then? And there in lies the rub. WE don't know do we? Which is why I am willing to let the guys getting paid to know do their job. I'll cheer whoever they pick and will even give that guy a couple of years to prove they were right.

Quote:A QB with 30+ TD and under 10 INT's for an NFL season along with over 9.0 YPA isn't top 5 level performance in the NFL? I disagree. It sure is but he did that against AAC (Big East) teams. I'm positive he wouldn't get close to those numbers against NFL defenses.

Quote:It sure is but he did that against AAC (Big East) teams. I'm positive he wouldn't get close to those numbers against NFL defenses. Thats another argument. I was specifically stating if he carried those numbers over.,, Quote:And there in lies the rub. WE don't know do we? Which is why I am willing to let the guys getting paid to know do their job. Quote:Whiteboard =/= FOOTBALL FIELD What? You do realize the whiteboard is very important because it shows how the QB understands the defense he's facing and plays being called. Dismissing a QBs understanding of play calling is like dismissing the a doctor's college degree. If a QB isn't sound between the ears he's NEVER going to make it in the NFL. Teddy having the physical tools and the mental tools absolutely makes him one of the best guys right now. And playing in the AAC will not hurt Teddy in the NFL. Florida and Alabama can't seem to get a QB to stick in the league right now and they print talent at the position the past decade. May be they're all world beaters, but they're all draft worthy, and not one has hit in a while, same with South California. I don't understand how Teddy has a lower ceiling than Johnny or Bortles either. Teddy's only problem vs Bortles is his size. Teddy has a better arm and mechanics than both Bortles and Johnny. If you're telling me take the QB with the best potential you chose Teddy. I'm actually not that surprised that Bortles didn't do well on the Whiteboard. UCF ran a very exciting offense, but it didn't seem to demand too much out of the QB position. Lots and lots of run after the catch. I think Bortles could be okay, but he has to sit for a little while. If he plays immediately he'll be the next Gabbert. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! Quote:If he is the guy everyone covets, shouldnt they be saying they want him to get everyone to trade up for him? If they know you like the guy, they know they won't be able to pry him from you. They hold the first pick and there's no jumping ahead of them. By signaling you're taking a QB not Ted, you're throwing ice water on teams wanting Ted to fall. They'll stay put for him to fall or at least be prepared to move to #2 to get him. Meanwhile... they may hold on for someone trading the farm for Clowney. If it doesn't happen... Then... they sign Ted. The Texans are in the cat bird seat.

Quote:Do you understand my point there? I am saying that if Teddy puts up the kind of numbers and play he put up his last season in college in the NFL for a full season, that that would be top 5 level. If he puts up those numbers the yes but I don't see how he puts up those numbers ![]()
Quote:If they know you like the guy, they know they won't be able to pry him from you. They hold the first pick and there's no jumping ahead of them.I was talking about the Texans, not us. Im saying if Teddy is the QB some people on here think, wouldnt all the teams that want a qb want him and shouldnt the Texans act like he is the guy they really want to see who will offer the most picks for him? He just might not be the qb or prospect some think or they would be using him for bait. Just dont seem teams are in love with Teddy or they would be throwing is name out there as the number one pick

Quote:That's a nice assumption, but it's no more true than saying that an obvious lack of interest should be taken on face value. All this being said is before pro days, this the deception time period Happens every year Quote:I was talking about the Texans, not us. He just might not be the qb or prospect some think or they would be using him for bait. Just dont seem teams are in love with Teddy or they would be throwing is name out there as the number one pick I think you're trying to convince yourself that Teddy isn't a good pick by jumping through hoops in your own head. Teddy is a good QB, they don't consider him Luck, but the ONLY "big" knock against him so far is his weight. You hear the Texans talk about QBs, they mention the top 3 guys. Jags, same story. Raiders, same story. Browns, same story, so on and so fourth. The Texans are in a strange spot because they both need a DE and a QB, just like the Jags. Not stating Teddy is there guy straight off the bat isn't something that is too surprising. When Carolina drafted Cam Newton in 2011 the team didn't really start to declare him their guy until about 2 weeks until the draft. Was that a condemnation of Cam Newton? Certainly not. Their were questions about Newton headed into the draft, and there was this Blaine Gabbert guy the media kept trying to convince us could be better than Cam Newton. Now we're here in 2014, and the whole media is trying to convince us that this Blake Bortles kid is the real deal. And what are their knocks against Teddy? He's too small, but they're praising a guy inches shorter than him and 20 pounds lighter? What! Teddy is exciting on the field, he wins football games, and he's the most fundamentally sound QB mechanically and mentally in this draft. The problem is Cool Hand Luke Teddy Bridgewater doesn't tune in TV sets on SportsCenter. Johnny Jackwagon and his fantastical antics does though! And Johnny he's soooooo flashy, he played in the SEC. Remember how exciting the SEC is? SportsCenter thought they were so exciting that they spent actual TV time to air every single SEC football stadium covered in snow back in January, because nothing says dominance like snow on SEC football fields. I'm just done with this circus. Teddy is the best QB right now, between the top 3 Bortles MIGHT be able to say he has Teddy's talent "ceiling." If you're the Jaguars and you don't take Teddy B you have to take Clowney. There is no way I'd risk this draft on a guy like Manziel who is more than likely an average QB at best in the NFL at this point, or you take Bortles and hope throwing him in earlier than he was ready doesn't hurt him in the long run. Keep making excuses about how no one is talking about him. May be he needs to rob a an old lady, or scramble wildly around on his Pro-Day, or start talking trash like a high schooler to get some "buzz" going for him. At the end of the day, on the football field Teddy is the better QB in the NFL, a great leader in the huddle, and the calm in the middle of the storm. Give me that guy over 20-questions need-to-be-answered-about-him Johnny Football.
And please I want someone to explain this to me.
Johnny has a wearker arm than Teddy - How does that equate to Johnny having a higher ceiling? Johnny scrambles to run, Teddy Scrambles to throw - How does that translate to the NFL better for Johnny when he and Bridgewater are both considered small? Johnny isn't as mechanically sound as Teddy - How does that equate to Johnny having a higher ceiling? Johnny isn't as mentally as proficient as Teddy - How does that equate to Johnny having a higher ceiling? Johnny played with better talent than Teddy, passed for the same yardage - How does that equate to Johnny being better than Teddy? Defenses had to account for Johnny's scrambling, opening up the passing game - How does that translate to the NFL? How does Johnny's onfield antics effect the locker room? How does Johnny's off-field antics effect the locker room? How does Johnny's sense of entitlement effect the locker room? How does Johnny's height effect his play? No QB 6'1" or under has been a Hall of Famer since 1970. All I'm saying is turn off the TV and look at the facts. In what way does Johnny's talents vs Bridgewater's talents translate to Johnny having a higher ceiling than Bridgewater? How many QBs that aren't "NFL ready" coming out of college end up being better than the most NFL ready guy? How many question marks do you need on Johnny to say he isn't worth the risk? You have to get this pick right, period. There can be no missing on this one. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Quote:And please I want someone to explain this to me.The only thing I disagree with is Manziel's behavior, I think it is over done in the media. Seems like a decent kid who wants to work hard and become the best I think their arms are about the same (Bridgewater's slightly stronger) Everything else is spot on though
Quote:Less that's being said, more they like him Not true. They could be talking a lot about one quarterback now, the talk a lot about another quarterback later. After the Louisville and UCF Pro Days, they might change their minds and have a new favorite. After Johnny Manziel's Pro Day, they might change their minds about him. Quote:It's hard to believe anything at this time of year. Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, is a smokescreen. No, not everything is smokescreen. That is obvious. David Caldwell said he was impressed with Manziel's interview preparation when he knew the names of five people in the room he never met. There is no way that can be smokescreen. Also, when Caldwell said he knows who his top three guys are, he did not name any of them, so that's not smokescreen either. What they are doing is dropping hints to keep people guessing. Quote:Let's not try to guess the organization's grade on players based on a few quotes. That's just stupid. I don't think it hurts to guess who they like based on a bunch of quotes by Caldwell and Bradley. For example, Gus said humility is important to him, which indicates he will be more interested in a mature player than Manziel, who has a lot of confidence but is not humble at all. Caldwell's comments imply he thinks no quarterbacks deserve to be the #3 overall pick. What is wrong with thinking that means they are not high on Manziel? Quote:I could be wrong but the small comment about Bridge after the more detailed comments about the other players is a dead giveaway to me that Bridgewater is their guy right now. You definitely are wrong. One article had that much information but if you read other articles, chances are you will find more comments about Bridgewater and less about Bortles and Manziel or different quotes about those three quarterbacks. Quote:Does any team come out of a player interview and NOT say "very impressed"? It's become coach speak for this crap. They can be very impressed for different reasons. Maybe one guy impressed with them his knowledge of the game, while another impressed them with his character as a person. They don't always tell you that part.

Quote:I think you're trying to convince yourself that Teddy isn't a good pick by jumping through hoops in your own head. Well, these quarterbacks are much more PR than great. None have elite talent and don't deserve a higher draft value than players that have elite talent at other positions. The league had been doing a good job of eliminating much of the unfair and inappropriate pressure sports agencies apply by buying up the media, but even the NFL Network is confessing that Rich Eisen's designer wardrobe has forced them to compromise 'in order to pay the bills'.
