Top 10 QB is highly debatable. He is one of the most over-hyped QBs I have ever seen, all because he is a tremendous ATHLETE. He is average at best, and the statistics bear it out.

Keep in mind that the only players worth their salt on the Falcons' offense when he was there was Warrick Dunn and Algae Crumpler. Vick is not a good enough passer to be effective with only those two players, so he compensated with his legs, and he did that better than any running QB in NFL history, statistically.

Like I said, I don't judge a QB entirely on his passing ability because that's not the be-all end-all for what makes a good quarterback a good quarterback. For example, I think Peyton Manning is easily the best passer of all-time, however, I think Tom Brady is the better overall quarterback.

 

Vick was a good QB, but he was not a very good passer. I think he was exceptional at compensating for his lack of weapons and subpar passing ability.

 

The "dream team" was bad because it wasn't really that good, and off the top of my head, Maclin was either playing hurt or not playing at all and Desean Jackson taking plays off, and Nnamdi was burnt toast. It was pretty much Vick's Falcons all over again.

I've probably seen him more than you.  He was atrocious in a couple of the games that I got to see him.  He gets rattled and confused too easily when he stays in the pocket and takes and awful lot of sacks for a running QB.  If teams can keep him contained, he is not all that good.  Then he runs and he gets hurt.  So where's the bonus?

Vick took a lot of sacks because Vick is a running quarterback. That kind of comes with the territory, and I can name running quarterbacks off the top of my head who have been sacked far more than he has. Randall Cunningham and McNabb both come to mind as far as that goes. I don't think Vick has ever even led the league in sacks.

 

Containing Vick was easier said than done. If it were easy he wouldn't have anywhere near as many rushing yards as he has. When I see his stats, I see a guy that did everything himself because he had no other option, which means every turnover, every touchdown was directly a result of him unless his defense kept him off the field. The '00 Falcons WERE Michael Vick on offense. I will admit that I believe his play simply declined after his second year with the Eagles and his health is a big problem, but I think his effectiveness on the field in his prime was at least better than 22 other quarterbacks, and I cannot name more than 9 quarterbacks from 2001-2006 that I'd take over him.

 

The biggest problem here is that I believe we have two totally different definitions of the quarterback position. I don't care if a guy can't pass the ball as well as he should. If he can make plays, he's a good QB, just in a different way. I suspect a lot of people will disagree with me on that, but overall I think Vick did well considering what he has had to work with his entire career.
