Quote:I don't know, one of my posts was basically a how to guide on illegal pirating while using a proxie to hide the crime. haha  thats post is now "some things are better said in a PM"

Meh, it's all "kiddie play" as far as I'm concerned.  A proxy isn't perfect and is not very efficient.  What is illegal at this point is the site(s) hosting the content.  It would be pretty hard to prove that you intentionally tried to download copyrighted content, but it's easy to prove that you are hosting it.  However, if the content is "hosted" on several computers across the internet, there is really no one "source" of the content.

That kind of gets back to my "legal vs. ethical" comment that I made earlier in my post that got deleted.  Just because certain content is illegal to distribute, it doesn't make it illegal to receive it.  If you are redistributing the content, then that's when it becomes illegal.  That's pretty much how torrent works.  However, you can set up your computer (or other device) to "receive only" and not upload anything.  At that point you are not breaking any laws.  Doing something like that though is not ethical.

I like the idea of sharing the crime with everyone else.  Even when you do host it for others to download its not like you give them the entire thing.  Usually you are just hosting one small piece of the file and the rest of the community is sharing other pieces.  Kinda cool how it all works really.

Nice. Kodi is definitely not perfect but certainly a cheap option with lots of different content.

Yeah, it's a great piece of software, the only reason I even keep WMC is because its PVR is still superior to anything on Kodi atm imo.

So Hulu will take care of sports? I didn't know they did that.

Hulu doesn't do anything sports related as far as I know.

I must've read it wrong. You get the sports from antenna stations and record it on the Tablo thingy?

Guess I just need an antenna.

I think they all have their pros and cons.

The FireTv is probably the only one I haven't had a chance to check out from the main choices.

Nope.

Yeah I get major network sports with an antennae and can record it with tablo and playback on any tv in my house or on the go on my mobile device if traveling. I also have ESPN and NFL network through having proper login credentials. If you don't want cable but want the suite of ESPN channels, you can get them all fairly inexpensively through slingtv. That would include channels like SEC network. I don't have that or care enough to spend the extra for it though.

Thanks! I'm going to look into some of that.

I actually have AT&T Internet as well. $62 a month and that is with a $15 credit for a few more months. Also have AT&T cellular. I am happy with their cellular service and the price of my plan.

I originally had Comcast internet and got so disgusted with them, I figured the grass was greener on the other side. It wasn't. I am not happy with AT&T internet at all.

To be honest, it really isn't a financial decision for me. This is solely based on principal. I've had enough...

Well, an update for those who are interested. I know you are on the edge of your seat!

DirecTV chose not to bend and lost a 15+ year customer. The representative understood my frustration with the fees but said there was nothing she could do outside of changing my package and changing my equipment. I told her I am not looking for my quality of service to suffer to save $10 a month. She didn't get it and I don't have the energy to talk to someone who does. She also ensured me that they have among the lowest fees of any of the big carriers, lol.

Cord cutting, here I come!

I'm interested, I have no love for DirecTv. Thanks for the update.

And welcome!

Just to make a general point, not directed specifically to you SC, but a company doesn't care if you've been a customer for 10 years or 10 days, nor should they.

Oh, I know. Loyalty isn't rewarded these days. It's just how the world is.

Also, I don't quite agree with you that they shouldn't care about loyalty. Why shouldn't they care about loyalty? Is that like the too big to fail mentality?
