Quote:The reason that there were no term limits established for congress is that the founders had no idea that the clowns in office now would make it their full time employment. They thought that there was no way someone would want to be a public servant for more than two years.

Your insight is super compelling.

See above, term limits need to happen NOW.

If you don't like Corrine Brown, the answer is to stop gerrymandering districts.   And let's be clear, the people most responsible for creating Corrine Brown's district are the republicans, who want as few democrats as possible in their district.   So if you don't like Corrine Brown, the person to blame is... Ander Crenshaw and the rest of the republican party.

By supporting majority black voting districts, the republicans eliminate a huge block of democrat votes in their own districts.   Creating a safe district for Corrine Brown also created a bunch of safe republican districts as a side effect.  They eliminated a bunch of democrats from the surrounding districts.

Result: more partisanship and extremism in congress.   On BOTH sides.

Gerrymandering can also be viewed as a good thing because it keeps block voters corralled into their own little circus.

Ytram beat me to it.

Ander Crenshaw had nothing to do with drawing the district boundaries.  It's handled by the state legislature.

Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

There's enough incompetence from top to bottom in DC to go around.  He doesn't hold an exclusive in that department.

I don't think anyone's denying the district are gerrymandering because both parties and yes that includes the republicans are setting it up for incumbents to be re-elected year after year.

When do we step in and help Isreal defeat Hamas.

Whether someone has a liberal, or conservative viewpoint, a authoritative figure should not lock a thread for the sole purpose to get the last word in all the while prohibiting someone else from being able to respond.

Israel can handle it themselves, no need for us to get involved. Just stay out of it all together.

You should all come to Europe where we also despise our politicians but we all agree at least they're not as bad as US Congress.

Plus, at the core of Hamas is an idea and you can't defeat an idea.

That idea is dangerous to the U.S. right?

How about we do something about our own borders, then and only then would I consider doing something about Israel's borders.

If fences don't work, why is there one around the White House?

DF, you should ask emperor Merkel for permission before posting your Euro mess on here.

My solution for the "immigration crisis" is radical but practical. I wouldn't even waste time or money on fences or troops on the border, here it is.

1.) Immediately for everyone citizen, resident, non-citizen and illegals, end ALL federal Welfare. Now before the world freaks out I said FEDERAL welfare, states a perfectly within their rights to provide safety nets to their citizens or even illegals if they so chose as they see fit, but it's state funded now. So those tax increase's on property to fund your states welfare that's going to be dictated with just how tolerant the people of that community are. You'll see most states "rework" their welfare pretty quick once the Federal money train ends.

2.) Eliminate the Income tax and all Federal taxes and replace them with a consumption tax. It doesn't have to be the modern form of the Fairtax which I do like, but it simply MUST end the unconstitutional wage deduction from people working legally and shift the tax collection to the purchase of goods. This does two things as well it eliminates the tax benefit of working "under the table" and "hiring under the table" and it forces the shadow economy to pay the same taxes as everyone else.

You do those two things and I don't care if illegals come, they can't be a burden on society and they're now forced to contribute when they purchase goods, but my guess is you'd have Mexico with a sudden flood of "illegal" immigration.

2 sounds interesting if implemented well. 1 would crash the economy overnight.

I don't think so I'm not saying end welfare, I'm saying force individual States to pay for it. Some would fail but then they would either see an exodus of citizens to states that do manage their income to welfare ratio properly or they would reform their welfare distribution. I'm all for competition, make the states compete with each other.
