I think if he gets reinstated, they will release him.   Gus is trying to build team chemistry, and have guys who can trust each other and that he can trust, and I think he feels very let down by Blackmon.

I'm not so sure they'd do that. I think they'd give him a very short leash and one last opportunity IF he can get himself reinstated.

Best he do that here.  I know Gus has a lot personally invested in him according to reports, and he's really disappointed in the current path.  If anyone can bring this kid back from the brink, I think Gus can with a little more hands-on.

 

The way the league handles these suspension is counter productive if the intention is to help the player.  They should have more contact with the team in order to get the help and the support structure.  Leaving them to their own devices never seems to pan out well.

I used to feel that way, but the more I listen to Dave and Gus, the more I think that since this is a brand new build, and they place a lot of importance on team chemistry, locker room chemistry, and trust, the more I think they will write him off.   I know he is talented, but I don't think Dave and Gus want him on the team any more.   I think they want to move on.  I just get that feeling.

The draft this weekend ostensibly  weakens the blow of Blackmon never playing for us again, but even assuming Lee and Robinson develop into a super duo, if Blackmon never returns, I will be among those who will always wonder what if.

I agree that if (and that's obviously a very big if) Blackmon came back and in good form and Lee and Robinson pan out, Shorts is probably gone.  Especially if Ace Sanders continues to develop.  Regardless, we would definitely be up there.

I think it's only realistic to look at what the team has done with the roster, and recognize that they're moving on.  If there's a 5% chance he comes back, there's always a possibility the team keeps him around.  But, if they get the sense he's not going to be able to maintain his sobriety to remain in the league, they're not going to waste time on him.

Tanard Jackson was suspended for two years and just got re-instated. Johnny Jolly was suspended for three years and was allowed to return last year.

 

I think the timetable is up to him in terms of taking the necessary steps. Based on what Bradley said Friday night, it does not sound promising.
