If Blackmon comes back, do we have the best receiver core in the league?

Quote:I think if he gets reinstated, they will release him. Gus is trying to build team chemistry, and have guys who can trust each other and that he can trust, and I think he feels very let down by Blackmon. I'm not so sure they'd do that. I think they'd give him a very short leash and one last opportunity IF he can get himself reinstated. Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Quote:Best he do that here. I know Gus has a lot personally invested in him according to reports, and he's really disappointed in the current path. If anyone can bring this kid back from the brink, I think Gus can with a little more hands-on. I agree that Gus is the right guy to help Justin get back on track and I very much look forward to his reinstatement. Quote:I think if he gets reinstated, they will release him. You don't just release elite, top flight talents, especially when you're a young rebuilding team and he comes cheap.
LEONARD FOURNETTE FAN CLUB PRESIDENT. I WAS BEHIND HIM WHEN YOU ALL SAID HE WAS BRANDON JACOBS. QUIT HATING ON THE JAGUARS. GUS IS GONE. COUGHLIN HAS RESTORED ORDER. FOURNETTE IS FRED TAYLOR. DONT BELIEVE ME JUST WATCH.

Yeah, the team is going to give him every chance to return as a Jag before they cast him off. Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
They're not going to release him if he comes back. He's just too talented to give up for absolutely nothing. We can't trade him because of his problems so we can't get equal value for him like a first round pick.

Dempsey was asking Oehser about the odds Blackmon gets back on the field for the Jaguars, and he reiterated what O'Halloran said yesterday. 5%

I used to feel that way, but the more I listen to Dave and Gus, the more I think that since this is a brand new build, and they place a lot of importance on team chemistry, locker room chemistry, and trust, the more I think they will write him off. I know he is talented, but I don't think Dave and Gus want him on the team any more. I think they want to move on. I just get that feeling. I think they'll do a proper evaluation before they cut bait on Blackmon if he's able to get back into the league. If they don't trust the fact that he's recovered and committed to staying clean, they're not going to keep him around. There's no point. Never argue with idiots. Not surprising...but kinda depressing nonetheless. The draft this weekend ostensibly weakens the blow of Blackmon never playing for us again, but even assuming Lee and Robinson develop into a super duo, if Blackmon never returns, I will be among those who will always wonder what if. Worst to 1st. Curse Reversed!

He refuses to believe we will cut ties with Blackmon whenever he's reinstated. When I told him this morning what Oesher said, he cited Oesher is a moron and nothing more than a glorified Alfie.
I agree that if (and that's obviously a very big if) Blackmon came back and in good form and Lee and Robinson pan out, Shorts is probably gone. Especially if Ace Sanders continues to develop. Regardless, we would definitely be up there.
Quote:Blackmon is still eligible for training camp and the preseason, correct?I think he's only eligible for that stuff if he is reinstated. Worst to 1st. Curse Reversed!

I think it's only realistic to look at what the team has done with the roster, and recognize that they're moving on. If there's a 5% chance he comes back, there's always a possibility the team keeps him around. But, if they get the sense he's not going to be able to maintain his sobriety to remain in the league, they're not going to waste time on him. Never argue with idiots. I probably should know this ... what is involved with him being approved for reinstatement? It's starting to sound as if the Jaguars doubt he'll get to that point.
Has any player failed to get reinstated? Is Blackmon continually tested? If so, what if he continually fails the tests? What if he doesn't apply for reinstatement because he can't get clean? Does he just fade away? Or can he eventually be released without qualifying for reinstatement?
The sun's not yellow, it's chicken.

Tanard Jackson was suspended for two years and just got re-instated. Johnny Jolly was suspended for three years and was allowed to return last year. I think the timetable is up to him in terms of taking the necessary steps. Based on what Bradley said Friday night, it does not sound promising. |
