Toby Gerhart: I can be 'dominant' for Jaguars

#81

Quote:True.  I dont why they pushed back the draft this wait is killing me.

Goodell had a TMD/Gene Smith moment.  He thought he was the smartest guy in the room, and that pushing the draft back a few weeks would be great for the league.  He's finding out differently now, and will probably rethink that strategy next year.

Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Quote:Worth the 3 million a year we are paying him?  I don't think he'd be a bust if he gets under 1,000 yards and 10+ TDs.  He'll earn his spot on the roster on 1st down runs and short yard situations.

Yeah, the Jags aren't paying Gerhart all that much, IMO, in the scheme of things.

Dont see it unless injury. I think he will take Jordan Todman spot tho.

Exactly.  I think Denard is destined to be a gimmick guy.

If the site below is accurate, Gerhart would be the 16th highest paid RB in the league.  His salary is $4.5m (inclusive or guarantees).

<sarcasm>

We should have kept MJD!  He would have cost a fraction of what Gerhart is gouging this team for!

I like the new date for the draft.  Less time between the end of the draft and football.  I wish they would change the format of 3 nights to 2 nights.  It's almost impossible to have a draft party now, who wants to get together just to watch round 1 OR round 2/3 OR the later rounds.

As Jedd Fisch pointed out today, the new date is bad for the teams because it's 2 fewer weeks where they know who is on their team, and it takes away 2 weeks of working with the rookies to get them up to speed.  That alone is a critical gaffe.

If you like the date, you're in the minority based on the overall feedback I've seen and heard in the media.  The commissioner seems to think it needs to be revisited as well, so again, you're in the minority.

Quote:No. He didn't actually. He said - and I quote - "Even though it's my fifth year in the league, I can come in and be a dominant guy."

The "I think" was attached to "
I think I'm in a unique situation," referring to his situation as a backup for AP.
Lol

I quoted the headline on NFL.com verbatim.

If they screwed it up - I'm not surprised.

I only posted it because I just found it comical that TMD was being so adamant while using the wrong word over and over.

I understand the time being taken away from the players to get coached.  Rookies will have less interaction with their team which hurts the game.  At the same time, the team and players will have some time off from the rigors of that will follow them everyday from draft day to the end of the season.  It's always important to have enough time off when you are working hard.  Go slow to go fast.

You do understand that under the new CBA, the "rigors" of the preseason training regimen and on field practices as a team are minimized to the point where they're almost non-existent.  They're not saving any wear and tear by delaying the draft by 2 weeks.  What they're doing is causing rookies to miss out on 2 weeks of meeting with their coaches and becoming familiar with the playbooks so that when they get to mini camps, OTAs, and training camp, they're ready to go.

These guys are professionals, they don't just kick back when they away from practice.  They study a lot.  The brain can only handle so much and between other commitments to the community and advertising, the season is a long grind.  I'm not trying to pity them, but it is 2 weeks across the board for all teams.  The rookies will be fine, they'll have to learn less is more and use their time deligently.

The rookies who are missing out on 2 weeks are not professionals at this point.  They haven't been acclimated to the NFL or the routine of being professional athletes.  Two weeks is a huge gap for guys who are trying to get up to speed with the NFL game where things are far more complicated, and expectations are significantly higher.

You're entitled to dismiss it saying the rookies will be fine.  The offensive coordinator who has to coach them up made it pretty clear today that it puts them at a distinct disadvantage.

Compared to what?  He's got decent game speed, and he's probably faster than MJD is at this point in his career.

He ran away from the Baltimore secondary last year, for some reason, fans believe a guy has to run a 4.2 to be considered fast. There's nothing wrong with a 6'0 231 LB RB that runs a 4.5, that's actually pretty impressive. If Toby Gerhart was in this draft, he'd ranked near the top of the list as far as RB's are concerned, as his game compares to Carlos Hyde and Jeremy Hill.

Gerhart?  What video have you been watching?

I'm condescending. That means I talk down to you.
