So much for repealing Obamacare

#81

I am curious as to who thinks the ACA is a perfect solution?

It needs to be repaired/repealed and replaced.  Some of you act as if being pragmatic about it is an outrage.

Quote:The problem isn't the age limit for parent's plans, the issue is the connection between employment and health insurance. Imagine if your ability to buy internet connectivity at your home was related to your employment, that's the root of America's healthcare finance problem. No one is doing the right thing to develop a robust and affordable individual market, and until we have one this isn't going to get better.

Bingo, especially the part in bold.  People are so conditioned to think that it's up to employers and/or government to provide health insurance.  If it was possible to shop around for health insurance I would gladly reject my employer's plan and take a salary increase.

Quote:what the problem really is, is that health care provision has been left to employers with greedy execs who make sure they get their millions of dollars in salaries and bonuses at the expense of their employees benefits...Companies don't hire many full time workers, don't pay much over minimum wage, don't offer benefits unless you are a full time employee in order to keep the execs luxurious lifestyle...They have done the same thing with retirement plans...no more pensions, just this 401k crap which is dependent on the stock market...There has got to be better ways

There is a better way.  It's called personal responsibility.  Buy your own insurance and save for your own retirement.

Quote:When I lived up in NH for a couple years, I worked for a ball bearing plant that produced ball bearings for missles and bombs (specifically the Jdam bomb), and that seasonal shut down sucks. It was roughly 2-3 months for us. Then again, waking up at 4:30am and walkin outside to go to work and it's -30 degrees outside, feels like your lungs and sinuses instantly freeze shut..

Oh suck it up buttercup.

Quote:The problem with that is the fact that people who work in retail, fast food and such (which is where most teenagers start their working lives) don't get full time for the most part and either don't qualify for benefits or working 26 hours a week can't afford health insurance...

I'm not going to offer my thoughts on that for now because I don't have the time at the moment.

Why should insurance affordability be tied to employment?

I should have read the whole thread before replying. Well put JIB and this is basically what I wanted to say in a nutshell.

For one, I think he's pretty good at sucking things.

Second of all, he said that it felt like his lungs were frozen...duh.

No, you blamed employers for the problem, like you usually do in these threads.

Quote:You won't be instantly thrown off your insurance plan. You're covered for that year as long as you pay your premiums. Stop being so dramatic before you know the details of what's going to happen.

My fear is instantly not having coverage for pre-existing conditions anymore.

I always believed the ACA needs to be amended. Its loopholes put me in what I called "health insurance hell" this year. But I would never want to completely get rid of it because some parts of the law work as they should.

I'm sure you will get a warning but he won't for trolling you into such a response.

The ACA is a mess. It needs to go away.

I only whine about what his promise is. If he decides not to live up to it, I will feel a little better.

Things change. Opinions change. I see this all as a positive for Trump even if the OP didn't post it for that reason.

Why not wait a little to see what's in it before freaking out about what might happen? Right now, you're wasting a long of energy over something that hasn't happened yet.
