Taking a top pass rushing talent isn't a luxury pick unless you have bucket loads of them already. Which we don't have.

 

 

We have Calais Campbell, Malik Jackson and Yannick Ngakoue. That's three really good pass rushers. That's more than most teams have. That isn't even counting Dante Fowler who may or may not improve this coming season. If we would draft another pass rusher, we don't need another DE/DT type. If anything, we should go after an edge rusher and there are plenty of good ones in this draft that can be had much later. Just look where we drafted Ngakoue. Allen lacks the burst to play off the edge in a 4-3 scheme. His 20 yard split was closer to the bottom half of the D-Linemen tested at the Combine. He needs to play on the inside in a 4-3 scheme, where he can use his power and technique to get by slower interior linemen. To me, it makes much more sense to add a true edge pass rusher in the middle rounds of the draft.

I think I've made it abundantly clear that I see no one at the top of the draft that I'm enamored with and I want to trade down. I truly believe we will be fielding a lot of offers for the #4 pick. There is quality there and I believe 100% that we will have an opportunity to move down and select either Ramczyk, Lamp or Fenney. That's what I want. I see them as safe, "can't miss" selections.

You must be new here...this argument was used ad nauseum with regards to why Leonard Williams shouldn't be picked even though he is a superior talent.


People like yourself clamored that with Odrick signing and Marks on the roster...why o why would we pick Williams it would be a Luxury pick.


Fast forward just 3 short off seasons...neither Marks or Odrick are on the roster and Williams looks like a stud.

I'm being totally serious here and most people aren't gonna like this answer, but I would totally do it. I would pass on the pick. It was done in a draft a few years ago by Minnesota. They just simply let the clock run out the the next team in line jumped in and made their selection. The Vikings were then able to jump back in at any point and make their pick. I would use the same tactic. I would let the clock run out if I didn't get a trade partner. I would then wait it out until I did get a trade deal or until I got to a point where I would be comfortable taking an O-Lineman. I don't wanna miss out on a guy that I consider to be "can't miss".

Absolutely not! I actually wanted Leonard Williams in that draft. He was nothing like Odrick or Marks. Odrick lacked true pass rushing skills and Marks was a DT only. Leonard Williams would've been perfect to play the 5 technique for us. These scenarios are COMPLETELY different. Malik Jackson and Calais Campbell are proven DE/DT prospects, so I see no need to spend a first round pick on another player like them. Odrick stunk and Marks played an entirely different position than Williams, so choosing him would've made complete sense.

Why pay a guy top 4 money when I don't believe in them? I'm not sold on anyone at the top of this draft. The only benefit about being in the top 4, is that we have a shot at adding extra picks by trading down. I could've said I would still take Lamp at #4. That would be dumb. Why would I pay him top 4 money when I could probably get him in the mid to late teens? At least by passing on the picks, I would actually be paying him in the correct slotting.

you lol at McCaffrey but say nothing about some of the others on the list? He is much more worthy than some of the others. He will be an elite RB an a matchup nightmare for defenses and ST. The most patient runner in the draft, the best receiving RB, great vision, speed to take it to the house every time he touches the ball. Not gonna mention his elite kick and punt return ability.
