The Jags went after Vernon just as hard as NY. Take  look at what his agent said regarding the matter. Look at the "play by play" yesterday from Peter King. People just assume because he didn't sign that the effort by DC and crew wasn't there. It's ridiculous.

Of course, TMD has argued the Jaguars didn't land any good FA because of Bradley.  That article from King mentions nothing about Bradley.

No, they will pay them. They find ways to lessen their tax rates through sponsoring foundations and such but will never eliminate them.

Those football players will find themselves bankrupt after their playing days are over when the IRS and the state revenue agencies come with back balances and all the interest and penalties associated with it.  They can lessen their tax burden, but they're not going to avoid it, especially in states like NY or NJ where they audit high income people at a pretty high rate.

It's as if people don't realize this is a VERY good draft to grab pass rushers. Not signing Vernon means we can lock up all of our current young players and still target the top FAs next year. For all that money Jerry Reese shelled out (a GM I respect), there's a decent shot they are not in the playoffs again next year. You don't win free agency by blowing the most cash. Ask the Redskins. This deal may rival the $80M the 49ers dished out for Nate Clements. How'd that work out? The time to move on was yesterday.

What I find amazing is that an owner will allow a GM to make moves like this in a desperate attempt to save his job. What happens if they have a horrible year? GM is gone and they are in salary cap hell? Maybe Goddell's intent is to keep raising the salary cap every year so the perennial favorites will never have salary cap issues?

 

That certainly seems to be the case. At some point, they're going to reach a level where it's not sustainable.

I can't speak to the OP's motives, but to me, there is a difference between expressing disappointment the team did not land a particular player and placing sole blame on the team for not landing the player.

 

Sometimes, guys simply want to play elsewhere.

 

I wanted Williams or, as a consolation, Vernon. 

 

For whatever reason, both guys decided to sign elsewhere.
