Why retain Dave Caldwell?

#81

Quote:People Caldwell failed! He didn't do his job! He had a rebuild plan, and it didn't work... Please open your eyes people.. He failed! Wrong Coach, Wrong QB, Wrong Lt.. I can go on and on and on and on! As Blake goes, so will Caldwell..
Then why is he still here especially after hiring of Coughlin?

I said it in an earlier post, he tied to Bortles when he goes so will Caldwell.. Caldwell isnt a bad drafter that's really his only strength.. It's just to bad he missed on the draft picks we really needed

THAT is why he's still here and still the Gm...It's too bad there isn't a crystal ball he could look into and see what his picks would be in a few years before he drafts them...No GM is ever 100% on picks they need...He's not tied to Bortles, he's tied to how well he drafts over the entire body of his work, not jjust the QB...Every GM has picks they wish they could take back and make a different selection, even on coaching hires

Quote:People love to reference the 2008 draft, but Gene was 10 times worse. People also forget the fact that Shack got us Mathis, Greg Jones, MJD, Lewis, Daryl Smith, Scobee, Manawaui , Wilford, Durant and you can even add a guy like Reggie Nelson, who's been a very good NFL players.

Shack wasn't as bad as hes some make him out to be. Id take him over Gene, Shack just screwed the whole thing up with 2008 with putting us in cap hell and bombing the draft.

Shack was a good GM.  He is a victim of the Owner meddling in football operations.  Wayne got swayed by the swing for the fences mentality that trapped him in 1999.  I liked listening to Shack's interviews as well.  2008 draft was just unfortunate and we kept the wrong guy in Gene Smith.

The Gene Smith small school stuff is so darn laughable now.  Oh how I miss these

We just had 3 different posts in a row about Dave being a good drafter and Harris being a good GM overall. This is Stockholm Syndrome level stuff...

Shack wasn't a good GM. His 1st round picks were average at best and his FA signings weren't any good.

Quote:Caldwell is a good, young GM. He will learn a tremendous amount from TC and become a Great GM ready to resume full control when TC eventually retires. The team could benefit greatly. I would imagine that is the hope.
How can you say he has been good at this point? He is a young GM and true he has made a ton of mistakes in a short time.  I don't know how you can say good.

Shows how bad Gene and Caldwell are if Shack looks good compared to them. Mike Peterson and Deon Grant are 10x better than anything those two bozos tried to sign. Shack also didn't have the luxury of picking in the top 5 every year like Caldwell, because Shack's teams could actually win games.

Caldwell is bad until until he proves he is good.

I can't see that many misses on DC and I dont see that the door is closed on Bortles yet either...Every GM misses on picks even 1st round QBs...No GM is immune to missing on draft picks and missing on FA is quite common for every GM, it's just the nature of the beast

2013 was a terrible draft year allround, hardly any one got decent players that year.

2014 brought us four starters, two decent backups and Bortles who now owns pretty much every single season QB record. Though i will admit the jury is still out on him.

2015 is hampered somewhat by Fowler's injury, but still has two starters and some decent talent in the later rounds. Fowler has also shown some flashes.

2016 has Ramsey who already looks All-Pro, Ngaouke who has the rookie record for sacks and Jack who appears to be a starting LB were it not for Poz playing lights out.

The entire 2013 draft will be gone after this season unless we re-sign cyp. The 2015 draft amounts to Fowler and AJ Cann who have been average at best thus far. And no every GM doesnt casually miss on first rounders, especially QB, and keep their job. Its not just a couple FAs here and there, were talking entire groups of signings are missing.

Just because Dave royally screwed up the draft doesn't mean it was a terrible draft. Pro bowlers into the third round and beyond...

That's all? Some of those players you listed are just average at best.

Keep in mind 250+ players were drafted. It's been hashed and re-hashed by both local and national pundits/experts/former GM's/current front office personnel etc that 2013 was one of the worst drafts talent wise on the books.
