Turns out it was a NC National Guard helicopter that didn't realize the area was not a drop zone. When they realized they were in the wrong place and doing damage they left.  Command has grounded the chopper and the crew pending investigation. 

That's the 'official' story according to local news.

A NG pilot, eh? He'll never live this down. He and the crew might get a slap on the wrist, but it was an honest mistake if true. Plus, NG pilots aren't that easy to replace.
