Lol. You guys are hilarious. So... let me just get this straight. We have video evidence of this man actively encouraging people to raid the Capitol. The crowd is chanting FED as he speaks, because it's obvious to them that he's an outsider. The next day, he's seen inciting the public to go INTO the Capitol building. Moments before the barriers are breached, he whispers something to the man who initiates the breach. Then he enters the Capitol while telling everyone to enter the Capitol.

The NY Times... who HATES J6 protestors... who finds them to be an abomination to our "DEMOCRACY," is defending Ray Epps? A guy who supposedly represents the worst of the MAGA movement? A guy who thought the election was SO stolen, he tried over and over again to work up a crown to breech the Capitol building? On video? This guy? This is who they are defending? What is wrong with you guys, man?

Ray Epps is suing Fox, guys. He must be innocent. They told us so. Those are the FACTS.

Remember when Trump said COVID originated in a Chinese lab and he was called a racist by the entire leftist MSM? Now what are they saying? Gosh, is it any coincidence the left and the right view the media as being untrustworthy?

A few things I want to add here.

"The entire leftist MSM" did not leap from "there is no evidence supporting the president's claim" to "he's racist for saying that."
The Whoopi Goldberg and Rachel Maddow types did, for sure. But there was plenty of responsible reporting that merely called his claim unsubstantiated, because it was.

I clearly recall several network evening news broadcasts using language like "there are dozens of Chinese labs that study this type of virus and they have a history of accidental leaks, but there is no evidence to support that being the case at this time."

Now - the issue that arises from all of this is that you already have around 40 million Trump cultists out there who are ready to eschew all basic truth and logical reasoning to blindly accept whatever manure he broadcasts as alternate fact.
And then you've got millions more who may not belong to that particular church, but they are damn sure a lot more receptive to conspiracy theory than they once were and increasingly untrusting of the media. Hard to fault them.

You add this together with the current digital age easily allowing the largest onslaught of propaganda ever known to a global populace  - and voters have real, serious work to do in order to feel certain they have culled through the disinformation and arrived upon fact.

It is a major problem and you and I both know there are folks left, right and center falling prey to all kinds of falsity.

Now despite my snarky ribbing of L2L in another thread about the right currently needing to resort to conspiracy theories and attempting to erode the integrity of "facts and truths" -- I do recognize that we have a major information problem on our hands.

Unfortunately - Trump's campaign and presidency spent so much time attacking journalists and their craft that the already near-impossible path back to some semblance of journalistic integrity faces yet another hurdle and a partisan one at that. Making the waters even murkier.

It really sucks - but the future of American politics looks like it will be one overflowing with disinformation for a long time to come. Voters will be rolling the dice that they are believing the most accurate information.

The Wuhan lab was always suspect. Remember the young Chinese scientist who posted a video of himself sick with the virus, before the pandemic really kicked in, and issuing a warning? He subsequently died, whether from the virus or the CCP we’ll never know. The lab in Wuhan, which was built with U.S. assistance, is a level four lab and was known for lax procedures.

My assertion the entire MSM labeled Trump as racist for citing the lab was overblown, but it’s tempered by the undercurrent of the media trope that race was a factor in his decisions. To wit: his attempt to stop air traffic from China when it was clear it was the source of the virus and Chinese leaders knew it as well. It was immediately tagged with the race card.

Regardless, I agree the disinformation and misinformation is flowing like a raging river from the left and right. Journalism isn’t the respected profession it once was because so many are now presenting opinion and selective facts as the whole story. It doesn’t help when people make excuses for it.

Yes, that's exactly right because we can completely trust our government and media to protect our best interests. And Joe Biden also got 81 million votes, nearly 11 million more than the mostest popular Prezident ever, Barry Obama.

I'm sorry, but you are connecting dots based upon supposition instead of fact or evidence.

You are personally OK with doing that sort of thing that on a regular basis. I am not.

I want the truth, not an assumption.

But please, continue in your campaign to disparage the words "fact" and "truth." It's quite revealing.

I agree with you on all points here.

Even about the media jumping the shark with the race card at times.

In their defense, this is a man who was given a half dozen opportunities to denounce the white supremacists among his supporters at rallies and repeatedly chose not to do so. That riled many.
Nonetheless - whether he's the racist piece of garbage I personally think he probably really is or not - the MSM played that card incorrectly in that instance and at the time I thought they may be right. Wasn't the case.

Even though the "flight ban" didn't actually stop border access for many people traveling from China, it was not a bad move in retrospect and could have slowed introduction of mutations or simply prevented a few more infected individuals from making it to US soil.

Why are any of you defending him? Why is he not being charged? He literally represents EVERYTHING the media and the moderates and the leftist claim is wrong with the MAGA crowd. He's on film, inciting storming the Capitol. These are reasonable questions and none of the "enlightened" on here are even asking these questions. Why don't you ask the questions?

Not a loaded question or anything. Just legit curious.

What is it that makes you so certain that Epps is/was a federal agent?

Why is it so unfathomable to you that he's just another MAGA protestor/rioter?

Regarding the part in bold, I won't speculate as to whether or not Epps is/was a federal agent, but there certainly is something odd...

From what I have seen, he is on video actually inciting violence and illegal actions.  People were arrested and their lives ruined just for entering the Capitol peacefully (invited and escorted by Capitol police).  Yet he has never been arrested or charged like the other "MAGA protestors".  Why is that?

I watched the events that unfolded that day on live television while flipping through all of the "mainstream media" "news" broadcasts.  For the most part, all that I saw were people hanging around in patriotic clothing and carrying flags.  Most were Trump supporters.  I didn't see a whole lot of violence until days later when the mainstream media "got exclusive footage".

Again, since there is footage out clearly showing Epps inciting violence, why has he never been arrested?  Why does one man not get the same treatment that so many others got who may or may not have been violent that day?

Did Epps enter the building or hit anyone?  His incitement is illegal, certainly, but not as illegal as a lot of other stuff that others did that day.

As of March there had been 1,033 individuals charged with crimes for their actions on Jan 6th in a and around the Capitol building.

To my knowledge the only ones arrested for "saying something" were those who were members of domestic terror groups whose communications reveled plots to enact heinous crimes.

Could charges be brought against Epps for saying things to other rioters that day?
I'm no expert on what the charges would be or how prosecutable that is, but it is conceivable.
However, if they are indeed going down that road, they'll have to also charge Trump's son, 2 of his advisors , half a dozen DC Republican lawmakers, and hundreds more Jan 6 rioters who also said things that day directing protestors to act violently. Remember - hundred of rioters were chanting "hang Mike Pence"  as they marched on, and in, the Capitol. I'd include Trump himself in that list, but he wisely contradicted himself after encouraging less than peaceful action in his speech that day.

Another thing you definitely should consider is that if Epps were a Fed meant to incite criminal behavior - they'd have had him continue to do so inside the Capitol where he could be even more effective. Furthermore, the standard procedure with such UC agents is to arrest them alongside the real criminals to further conceal their identity.

I'm open to being convinced of operatives inciting violence if you can find proof, but I've seen no one produce anything remotely convincing as of yet.

Epps appears to merely be another MAGA insurrectionist - who simply just didn't have enough sack to cary out the deeds he verbalized with his own two hands.

Firstly, I don't know if he's an agent or not. We have many instances of the FBI admitting they have agents and informants in plain clothes at the J6 protests. This was uncovered during the trials of people who were arrested and charged with breaching the Capitol. We also have seen this same tactic before that came to light in differrent trials. We also have the FBI directors admission that they do use this tactic, but he will neither confirm nor deny that Epps was used in this capacity. I believe it's highly probable, based on what we already know, that he was working with some agency in an informant or undercover capacity. I don't know if he's FBI.

The problem with Epps is that he incites storming the Capitol. It's on video. He's there, coordinating with the person that breached at the Capitol. It's on video. He storms the property at least up until the building itself. It's on video. We have video of plain clothes agents coordinating with Capitol police, saying they were undercover and giving them updates.

He literally embodies everything people say they hate about J6 protesters. Yet, he's being defended. Why?

I have a genuine question for you. If I just showed you the video of Epps, and said, this man should not be arrested for his participation in J6, taking away any mention of whether or not he was an informant or agent, would you disagree? If so, why? He was ACTIVELY encouraging people to go into the Capitol building.

Just because people are saying he's an agent, should he completely avoid prosecution? It doesn't make any sense.

If so, why? He was ACTIVELY encouraging people to go into the Capitol building.

Just because people are saying he's an agent, should he completely avoid prosecution? It doesn't make any sense.

I never said he should avoid prosecution.

See my response a few above here to JIB for my take on that.

I also don't know that he's being "defended." He just hasn't been prosecuted, and folks are not accepting of the assertion that he was planted to incite criminal behavior. That is not "defending" him, it's just denying the validity of a conspiracy theory.

As of March there had been 1,033 individuals charged with crimes for their actions on Jan 6th in a and around the Capitol building.

To my knowledge the only ones arrested for "saying something" were those who were members of domestic terror groups whose communications reveled plots to enact heinous crimes.

Could charges be brought against Epps for saying things to other rioters that day?
I'm no expert on what the charges would be or how prosecutable that is, but it is conceivable.
However, if they are indeed going down that road, they'll have to also change Trump's son, 2 of his advisors , half a dozen DC Republican lawmakers, and hundreds more Jan 6 rioters who also said things that day directing protestors to act violently.

I don't believe that at all, man. I think it's just your typical psyops, which is a very real thing. I mean, anyone who knows any history at all should know that the US government has been expanding its psyops since WWII. We have 2 divisions in the military dedicated to psyops. You really believe it starts and stops on the foreign stage? The war on terror changed all that, man.

Here's the recruiting video the army made (and a link from Army Times talking about it):

I mean, the sheer obliviousness you guys have with regards to the power of the Federal government is astounding. You guys are far too quick to believe it's operating in good faith when there is zero reason to do so. There's almost no accountability. They are funded by massively powerful corporate interests and covered by a media that is funded by the same people. There's just a bunch of rich, powerful people who hide behind our government to make them more money and give them more power. I am seriously dumbfounded that I have to have this argument with liberals, of all people.

Why?

None of the bolded has anything to do with proving that Epps or any other supposed plants had involvement with inciting Jan 6 rioters. You are still just assuming that happened with no proof or compelling argument.

The lack of prosecution could absolutely be nothing. Like I said - lots of folks who weren't arrested said things that day to incite violence.

Of course. You guys keep asking for proof... like I can KNOW he was an agent. I'm using my brain. This is the equivalent of asking me to PROVE Penn and Teller aren't using real magic, and then saying, "See... I knew you couldn't do it," when they don't let you near the stage.

I have never said he I can PROVE he was an agent... I'm just looking at the circumstantial evidence. He was on the FBI's most wanted list for a few weeks after the protests, so at least someone thought he committed a crime. He incited a mob, which is a crime. His name was removed from the most wanted list a few weeks after J6. The FBI had informants and agents in plain clothes during the protests. He wasn't even prosecuted when people, who did MUCH less, were thrown in jail, in solitary confinement.

Grandmothers were sentenced to years in prison. A dude who only texted to his son that he had his gun was sentenced to 15 years WITHOUT any other proof, and the guy we see inciting the mob and present at the scene of the break in was not even arrested or prosecuted? Moreover, the face of the MAGA movement is just getting defended by the MSM? Shouldn't they at LEAST be saying he should be prosecuted, too?

Those are all legit questions, and you and the other consumers of mass propaganda don't even take the time to let those ideas sink in. Question this [BLEEP], man. It takes collective voices to hold the government accountable, and too many of you are just letting them tell you it's raining while they piss all over you.

I'm using my brain. No you aren't. You're just making dangerous assumptions based on way too little information.

Exactly how much of this riot did Epps "cause" in your mind? Would they not have marched on the Capitol had he not been there? Would they not have entered the Capitol had he not been there?  His name was removed from the most wanted list a few weeks after J6. The FBI had informants and agents in plain clothes during the protests. He wasn't even prosecuted when people, who did MUCH less, were thrown in jail, in solitary confinement.

Grandmothers were sentenced to years in prison. I've known plenty of grandmothers who deserve to be in jail. A dude who only texted to his son that he had his gun was sentenced to 15 years WITHOUT any other proof, and the guy we see inciting the mob and present at the scene of the break in was not even arrested or prosecuted?
You mean this guy? https://www.news-journal.com/news/local/...ec2d4.html Moreover, the face of the MAGA movement is just getting defended by the MSM? Shouldn't they at LEAST be saying he should be prosecuted, too? So, over 2000 rioters actually entered the building. They have arrested only around 1200 of them. You think they are letting Epps slide even though he's done worse than others? Doesn't add up.

Those are all legit questions, and you and the other consumers of mass propaganda don't even take the time to let those ideas sink in. Question this [BLEEP], man. And too many of you are concocting a bunch of malarkey to suit your chosen narrative of what really happened.

What really happened was that Joe Biden won the popular vote in enough states, legitimately, to defeat an egomaniacal wanna-be autocrat. That wanna-be then proceeded to attempt an illegal end around on the results of seven states elections.

State officials and his own Vice President would NOT play ball with the illegal scheme so he took to fomenting his base into a disruption of the transfer of power. People died and many were injured as a result.
This ^ is the idea YOU need to let sink in. Scratch that - THESE ARE THE [BLEEP] FACTS you need to let sink in.
Had they not attempted to illegally alter election results and resort to lying to the public about it when it failed, we wouldn't have to worry about Epps, or federal plants, or who deserves arrest or not.

It's a shame Trump couldn't just lose with a shred of dignity.
