Quote:The roster belongs to Dave, FWIW... Nobody is saying the roster wasn't bad by NFL standards, but was it really 5-11 bad considering all the breaks the Jags got last season, including playing in the dreadfully awful AFCS and getting a Jags record 35 TD passes, having 2 WRs over 1000 yds AND scoring the most points in the division? He didn't really have to "improve" the contribution of the roster as much as find a way to stop a couple of rookie QBs and a few journeymen QBs from looking like all pro Qbs, especially on 3rd downs. Just a couple/3 more wins would have made a huge difference in how last season was perceived. 7-9 would look so much better right now then 5-11 does. Also, anyone who has eyes can see that the defense is way the worst side of the Jag's football team, why did he keep putting them on the field first when he actually won the coin flip?
I survived the Gus Bradley Error.

I just want to point out two things here and then I'll probably dip out of the conversation, but I do think they are applicable. The first is that the Jacksonville Defense had a fatal flaw in that they could not rush the passer. What I mean by fatal flaw is that it was a weak point that if exploited, it would result in big gains for the opposition. It's akin to when a Defense can't stop the run, or when an Offense can't block a pass rusher (See Carolina, Superb Owl 50), the only thing that I believe can be done to fix the flaw is to overhaul the talent at the position. I don't think scheme or adjustments will have any success. If Jacksonville could have had even a modicum of consistency at the Pass Rusher spot, I think they get those three wins to which you're alluding (see the Indianapolis win this season). Secondly, when you have a weak Defense, why not carry the logic out that states you're going to need to score a lot and what that implies? To me, it means that you're going to need to have the ball more and Second Half possessions are more important that First Half possessions, especially if you can rig the game so that you get back-to-back possessions going from the end of the First Half to the beginning of the Second. I have no problem in deferring so that you get the ball first in the Second Half, that makes sense to me.
I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.
Stop saying whatever stupid thing you're talking about and pay attention to all the interesting things I have to say! Quote:So you shouldn't be head coach either. No one on a message board should, Captain Obvious... Sorry, but players not plays.

Quote:No one on a message board should, Captain Obvious... Yeah, tell that to the 2002 Tampa Bay Bucs. People should quit acting like it's not both. “An empty vessel makes the loudest sound, so they that have the least wit are the greatest babblers.”. - Plato

Make the Jags Great Again
Blake Bortles......YOU'RE FIRED! Dave Caldwell.....YOU'RE FIRED! Quote:Yeah, tell that to the 2002 Tampa Bay Bucs. People should quit acting like it's not both. Yeah, that Tony Dungy was trash who would never win a ring of his own. Tampa never would have won until he was replaced. It was totally the plays. Right. ![]() Psst... the players assembled with Dungy won for Gruden. Not the plays. Now go spin away the fact Gruden couldn't win the big one in Oakland... plays, right? LOL I'm sure you'll then go "tuck rule"... there's always an excuse for those who won't admit they're wrong. Players, not plays. Why else do you think Gruden has been happy on the sidelines so long? No team with a loaded roster has come calling, and isn't likely to. What he was handed to him in Tampa doesn't happen often. It usually only happens when a coach has "lost" his locker room. That the relationship soured with his players, not his playbook. He isn't going to taint his record by going to a project. He's simply resting on it unless he gets the perfect offer again. If ever. I'm not sure you even know what players, not plays actually means. Every team must have players. Every team must have a coach. However, the quality and talent of players is much more important than the coach. Thus, players - not plays. Since you don't seem to know... that's what it means.

Coughlin was replaced with Del Rio
Dungy was replaced with Gruden Neither better head coaches than the man they succeeded, but had more success with the same players immediately after. If you've lost the locker room, it's the change itself, not the talent of the replacement coach, that has the biggest impact. And as those teams proved, it's short lived as well. Both were fired not long after. While their counterparts went on to earn Super Bowl rings with their new teams... At least Del Rio has earned another HC job since...

Quote:Coughlin was replaced with Del Rio JDR was here for a decade, that's not really "not long after." Sometimes a coach plateaus with a team for any number of reasons. Dungy couldn't get the Bucs over the hump and Gruden, with the same players, did, simple as that. Bradley's peak is much much lower. “An empty vessel makes the loudest sound, so they that have the least wit are the greatest babblers.”. - Plato
I just remember all the kneel downs Mularkey did in his first year, so its a good thing for us Jaguar fans that they are keeping him for another year.. the DC though will improve that Defense this season.. but Mariota might get better...

Sounds like he's still stuck in the past preaching his ball control and conservative play. 25 times a game is fine and all. But realistically, Blake Bortles threw for 37 a game in 2015. Andrew Luck threw for 35 a game in his second year. But for Mariota, "take no chances and throw no interceptions" I bet is the matra. We show less advertisements to registered users. such a bad organization.
imagine them making a good hire like Gase or Hue and flipping all those draft picks for actual good players. Could have really put the whole division over the top quality wise. Quote:such a bad organization. You already know Gase or Hue will be good Head Coaches? They will be if they have good players.

Quote:Haven't seen it talked about much, I'm sure some of you saw it. I mentioned in another thread an article I read on PFT this morning, and it talks about the titans most likely retaining Mularkey. Here's an updated article from the same site How did Gus Bradley lose to him.. sad |
