The whole point of representative government is that ordinary people only have to think about it once every two or four years.
If we thought it was desirable for people to be constantly engaged, we would have made a system where every big decision comes up for a citizens referendum.

Even if your theory is correct, the designed "system" is 200+ years old and is no longer a reality.   Real time communication technology is global and the public, like it or not, is constantly engaged.  Isn't this message board an example?

No politician, regardless of party affiliation, would ever support changing to a system of citizen's referendums, because in doing so, they would relinquish the power they all crave.

The god-like worship of that man is scary. I know republicans are desperate for representation in the WH but Trump is not the answer.

I can see how people are going to become more divisive because of their love or hate for the man and things are going to get really ugly. Sure, you can make fun of the liberal meltdowns on MSM and social media, but that's going to spill out into real life and become a serious problem.

Enjoy the calm before the storm.

I’m of the opposite opinion. Now that there is an even-keeled alternative in DeSantis, coupled with the Trump endorsement losses in the midterms, I believe we’ll see him slowly fade into the background. There will always be a vociferous cadre of die hard Trump acolytes, but the majority of his supporters are beginning to back away.

I disagree. Trump's voice will be elevated by the national media to disparage DeSantis. The more the establishment gets behind DeSantis, the more people are going to be drawn to Trump. It would be wise of DeSantis to pretend like Trump isn't there and continue to address the failings of the media and federal government that are hurting the people.

Chuck Schumer announces plans to give all illegal immigrants citizenship.

In 2009 he denounced illegal immigration and supported building a wall. What happened?

I'm just worried that DeSantis will win the nomination then Trump will run as an independent and siphon off enough votes to give Biden a second term.

I really hope that DeSantis wins big enough that Trump will see the futility of continuing and just fade away.  Unfortunately, that ain't Trump.

All day yesterday the top story at CNN.com was fact checking Trumps announcement speech.
CNN wants him to have all the attention he had before. They can't quit him.
My fellow southpaw Mark Brunell will probably always be my favorite Jaguar.

How do you think CNN (or any other news agency) makes money?  They'll give attention to anything people will watch and/or click on, because viewership means advertising revenue.  They're not going to quit him until you do.  Why is this so difficult for so many to understand?

Why would they quit the person who makes them big money? Trump haters will tune in to hear their bias confirmed just as Trumpers tune in to Fox to hear their bias confirmed. The media wins.

She said they would be dropped into a box with other types of ballots and counted later. I have no reason to believe that didn’t happen.
My concern is Maricopa county, intentionally or not, continually conducts a muddled voting process that invites skepticism. Why can’t/won’t that county get its act together?
