Marcedes Lewis to be traded?

Marcedes will make a good backup TE, a secondary option.  His biggest issue was his salary and him being asked to be the TE1.

Both of those have been corrected so it seems, what's the issue here?  His deal has been re-structured, a pass catching TE has been added to fill the role he played last year, he's now the backup.

Is Lewis going to be heavily targeted? No.  Is he going to be the main focus in the passing game? No.

Is Lewis an All Pro? No he is not.  Is he a pro bowler? No he is not.  Does he need to be? No he does not.  He's not the guy any longer, he's shifted down the depth chart a notch.

Is he a good 2nd option at TE? I say yes he is.

He was on the trade block and probably in danger of being released outright if he didn't restructure  -- so, yes, he could genuinely be happy to be able to stay the course in Jax.

Lol I don't think that's the part he's excited about.

I think he's happy to be a part of Jacksonville and what the team has going, even if it means taking less money to stay put.  I know people like to throw around the term that money is everything to these guys but sometimes being comfortable in a situation, not having to move your family around and be thrown into a whole new environment can be a big plus for a veteran.  I get the impression that the Gus juice is flowing strong through Marcedes and players are excited to be a part of the Jaguars and their future.

If this years draft class looks anything like last years, I'm not sure I'll be able to contain my excitement.

It's way too early to say for sure about anyone Dave has drafted but last years class looks great.

Telvin Smith? What value with that selection and then you have Brandon Linder who played above expectations last season.  Allen Robinson was productive and looks the part.  Bowanko in the 6th?  It hinders on Bortles development but they are adding a lot of pieces to help aid that development and ease his on field growing pains.

Quote:I look at this move as a possible trade bait for another team. One of the biggest reason why teams wouldn't trade for Lewis other than he's absolutely horrible is his even worse contract.

This might open up some trade options. Hopefully.
How do you figure?  He's still in the final year of his contract.  If they'd added to the back end and extended his deal, maybe.  They didn't.

Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Restructuring? Any details? I suspect they really mean he took a small amount of guaranteed money in exchange for a large pay cut when they said to him, " yeah, you're not as good as you think you are and the NFL isn't particularly interested in you, so do you want to take a small guarantee right now or do you want to risk being out of the NFL with nothing come September?"

Put that way it's obvious why Marcedes would take a pay cut.

So we have the giraffe for at least another year.. Maybe he can go stand in front of the juggs machine for a couple months and learn how to catch a football now..

People are assuming there's a pay cut here.  Has anything been reported to substantiate that?

Well, I doubt they restructured the deal to pay him more money.

There's nothing to back up a cut.  They could have restructured the way his contract is paid out this year and not change a dime in compensation.  Players under contract don't agree to pay cuts in most instances.

Or he is getting traded draft night

If Lewis is back good, he can help blocking and be a big target, if we can get a pick for him good too

I agree that it would be nice to have details. I'm not an expert on how all things contracts work, but I assume they found a way to continue paying him roughly the same amount, while reducing the cap hit. I don't know if that is done by turning more money into signing bonuses or what it entails. Pay cut may not be the most accurate statement. Reduced cap hit is probably better. He will probably make the same, but count less against the cap.

Quote:Balls that could be going to Robinson Lee Julius even Hurns could potentially go to Macedes is not ideal.

The main issue was that he is horrible.
no it wont, we will run 2 TE sets with or without Lewis, I rather have Lewis then some udfa rookie, we will also run 3 TE sets, having Lewis isnt taking away from anybody but another one of the scrub backup TE's we have
