That would mean the Jags would be at least tied for 1st place in the division.

And if they could find a way to win the very next game at home against the Fins too, OH BOY.................................................

How great a start would that be????

I survived the Gus Bradley Error.

Why cant we beat the Saints? Who do they have?

And all of the speculation is premature anyways. The draft hasn't even occured yet.

Well.......we got screwed from the Patriots to the Bills ( big surprise), but i think this schedule is actually manageable. Its not as bad as last year besides that tough September and October stretch. We can easily start off 2-2, or 1-1 with the Panthers and the Dolphins. I think for sure we will lose to the Pats and Colts, but theres a good chance we can salvage a W at Tampa after losing 2 in a row. I also think we can beat the Texans at home and beat the Bills in London. We get a bye and pretty much its a much easier schedule after that. We can beat the Jets away, Ravens will be a big question but i don't thinks its out of the question if we can beat them or not. The two hardest games after the bye are home against San Diego and away against the Saints. Its a pretty doable schedule. I could easily see us going 5-4 down the stretch after the bye.

( puts teal glasses on) If the Jags truly improve the way i think we are, and we build on this solid Free Agent class with a good draft, plus the young guys getting better with experience, i actually think the Jags can have a really good season. 9-7 does not seem that out of the realm to me. That is if we truly improve the way i think we can. But maybe I'm too much of an optimist.

Quote:The London game pretty much screws us over. I mean, ONE home game in 8 weeks. That's half the season right there where fans at home will only get to watch the Jaguars one time.

That's a bitter pill to swallow for ticket holders, regardless of how "valuable" they claim London is for the Jags.
This right here...

When an owner elects to play a home game overseas, it is hard to complain about getting screwed when the schedule comes out. It is what it is.

If this is truly a make or break year for this staff, it just got a lot harder.

Agree. We can't complain about so many games in a row away from Everbank Field when this team is electing to play 9 road games a year.

The team makes alot of money with that one game but this is the downside.

Maybe its just my opinion, but i think home field advantage, especially at the NFL level is a tad overrated. Of course the extremes occur, like weather. You know, really hot in florida in September or really cold in Chicago or Greenbay in December. I think that plays an affect of the games, but as far as fan wise, while the NFL is king and all, i don't think the stadiums get as loud as per say College football in the south or even soccer matches in Europe ( notice my avatar).

My point is, and i say this as a Jaguars season ticket holder, I'm not as concerned about having that many road games in a row. Yes, we got screwed from 9/25 though 10/27, as in away games in a row, plus just having one home game in like 6 games. But if you look at the schedule, and theres a lot of winnable games.

Just look at our first two games. Both winnable and at home in September. Once we get past the bye, its a pretty breezy schedule, minus San Diego at home and as New Orleans.

I don't like complaining about the schedule and things like home field advantage because as a life long NFL fan, that does not really play into affect. As i said, NFL stadiums are not as rowdy as one thinks, the players are the elites and unless the weather is in extremes, things are not going to affect them. I think at the end of the day, if your gonna be good, you will be good. PERIOD. Does not matter how many home games or away games you play in a row, the NFL is the NFL and anything can happen to any team.

From Peter King's article about the schedule:

JacksonvilleAt first glance, if I’m Jacksonville, I hate the three-game road trip early (at Patriots, Colts, Bucs). Then I see the end of the season, and I really get ticked off: at Saints, at Texans.

The article details how difficult it is to make a schedule while meeting the demands of the favored owners, popular baseball teams, top concert stars, and the Pope, while packing the prime time slate with the same darlings - Eagles, Broncos, Colts, Cowboys, etc.  The Jags-Titans Thursday Night game happens only to meet the contractual obligation to feature each team in Prime Time at least once.  It's usually a late season game they can promote as "The Race For The Top Draft Pick".

I say just play a pre-season game in London.

The London crowd will never know the difference.

We keep our 8th home game in the regular season.

I think they could get similar money out there.

He doesn't even talk about the London trip, bye week , then @ Jets, @ Ravens,  before coming home on a short week to face the Titans, who played at home and didn't have to travel week prior.

The NFL certainly didn't do us any favors with the schedule. If we make the playoffs somehow this season, then our guys definitely earned it.

Quote:I'm interested to see how your young offense and especially OL will do against a great Carolina front 7 and then next week against what is also supposed to be a good Dolphins defense around Suh. I expect a defensive battle and low score games. Both games are winnable and I think you should win at least one at home.

Oh man, thanks for reminding me. Our OL is improved, but its a unit that typically takes longer to gel. Getting Carolina and Miami's defense early is going to be a tougher test than I had already thought they would be.

Quote:Looking at the schedule, barring anything unforeseen (trades, injuries, retirements), which games, going in, do the Jaguars appear to have the edge at QB, assuming moderate improvement from Bortles?

I see Tampa, Houston X 2, Buffalo, the NYJ, Tennessee X2.

This is a good take. In two years so far, our wins have come against Hoyer, Eli, Whitehurst, Fitzpatrick, Keenum, Weeden, Schaub/Keenum.

Other than Eli, who's OL was destroyed by our DL, all of those QBs were on par or below the level of our QB on paper. So heading into next season, realistically the teams where we have an edge or even at QB are likely our wins. Four of those are against division rivals, so that's always a toss-up.

That gives us Tampa, Buffalo, and the Jets...all, for all intents and purposes, are away games.

Regardless, those games are probably our best chances of winning.

Whining about the schedule is for LOSERS.

I don't remember ever talking about the schedule in the days when we were actually good.

Build your team so it can win anywhere.

You people that say the NFL did us wrong somehow need to grow up.

I see the Jaguars starting off 0-5 as a huge possibility.

Then you remember wrong. There were plenty of schedule talk even when we were good. Its the NFL. Everything gets talked about. Its a competitive league, and every advantage or disadvantage is talked about and complained about.

There were early complaints that we weren't getting enough early home games, when temperatures are at 90 degrees + humidity.

I remember complaints about 3 game road swings too.

Bad field turf?

Piping noise?

Ball deflated by a barely noticeable amount?

Texting during a game?

Its the NFL. Everyone wants every little ounce they can get to have a competitive advantage.

The schedule that the NFL gave the Jaguars is tough. There's no ands, ifs, or buts about it. Part of it is self-inflicted, given our London situation.

We have a 3 game road swing. Two if you count the London game as a travel game.

You know who doesn't have to travel 3 weeks in a row? New England. Not only do they not have a 3 game road swing, they have a 3 game home stand lol.

Seattle doesn't have a 3 game road swing either, and they too get a 3 game home stand.

Let's look at the opposite end of the spectrum. Tampa Bay has neither 3 game road swing or 3 game home stand. Their schedule is balanced. How about Tenn? No 3 game road swing...and *gasp*  a FOUR game home stand (with bye in the middle). Oakland? Balanced schedule.

Atlanta has a 3 game road swing. So does Buffalo.

Baltimore has TWO 3-game home stand with no 3-game road swing. So does Detroit.

Sure, we can get as good as we possibly can and not care. But the schedule is supposed to "easier" for the weaker teams to promote parity. And I sure would love some of these other schedules.

and I think we need to just shut up about it and win.

Gus Bradley and co. aren't getting the slightest benefit of the doubt because the schedule is tough.  It's tough, but so is every schedule.  I'm sure if you actually looked at it, we probably have one of the easiest schedules in the league (however they calculate that).

apparently we have the 25th toughest schedule in the league.

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/eye-on-foot...s-at-no-32

like you said, some of it is self inflicted.  If our owner doesn't care about the schedule and uses a home game to play in Europe, then we have no right to complain about the schedule.

The NFL is giving us an opportunity to start at home and pick up some wins.  If we can't beat the Panthers and the Dolphins at home, then what's the point of complaining about the schedule?  We suck.  ANY schedule would be too hard for us.

We can't play the titans and texans every single week.

I'm ok with London for the next few years.

When we get good and have the potential to challenge for the AFC South, I think the London game will take on a much greater debate w/ regard to the impact to the team and fans.
