This should go in TMD's wall of fame... one of the dumbest things he's ever said and then defended, which is saying a lot actually.

Quote:The problem with the 'numbers curse' thing is pretty obvious from the start: We haven't had many successful receivers, and haven't had any successful QB's since Mark Brunell. Not sure how you can say theres no discrepancy when the amount of Jags WR that have been a success who chose low numbers is zero. Zero. not 10%, not 20%, not 5%, but ZERO. Not even one of the best college receivers in history could shake the curse, despite him obviously having uber talent even at the pro level. 25 (allegedly) Jags receivers have worn the teen/ low numbered jerseys and none of them have turned out to be a success. Deny theres bad mojo/ bad luck with this franchise and WR that choose low numbers, but the evidence suggests otherwise.
Quote:Not sure how you can say theres no discrepancy when the amount of Jags WR that have been a success who chose low numbers is zero. Zero. not 10%, not 20%, not 5%, but ZERO. So then there are 45 (allegedly) that wore numbers in the 80s and only two were worth anything. That's an astonishing 4%...
Your use of "success" is subjective. Many people would deem Wilford a "successful" pick. You choose not to so you can continue this silly argument and continue to get replies.

ZERO have turned into successes with the teen numbers. Bad mojo/ bad luck. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Quote:2 of those being all-world. I would quantify 4% as bad mojo.
Quote: That's evidence of poor play in our receivers. It's not evidence of "bad mojo" or bad luck or magic pixies cursing them because they're playing with the wrong number.

Both Lee and Robinson are vastly talented.... poor guys.

Itll be from the 100% logical excuse of them picking #s 10-19.
Also Harvey and Alualu have been busts. What numbers should we avoid for Defensive linemen?
Quote:...that flies until top picks like Reggie Williams and Justin Blackmon also flamed out (for various reasons), who both clearly had talent or else they wouldn't have gone in the top half of the first round.I'll Give you Blackmon but Williams was never good. Williams was never a top talent in college. That was a mistake on Shacks behalf. He wanted a big receiver and Roy Williams and Larry Fitzgerald were off the board. Williams was the only guy who matched their measurable that year. It definitely wasn't because of any talent. We see all the time guys get drafted high in the draft because of factors other than talent. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!

Itll be from the 100% logical excuse of them picking #s 10-19. You could have saved words just by saying bad luck/ bad mojo. If those 2 fail, that will likely be the reason. Both are very talented so I'd doubt their actual on field play will be the issue (much like Blackmon) and those 2 seems to have few off field worries (per all accounts). Injuries would fall under bad luck/ bad mojo too.

We see all the time guys get drafted high in the draft because of factors other than talent. At worst Reggie Williams was still a talent expected to be drafted in the lower half of the first round. No, maybe he wasn't worth nearly as high as Shack took him (8th overall) but still talented enough to be a first rounder.

Good thing you aren't a Brown's fan. Your hatred for qbs at pick 22 would be amazing

Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."

They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
Quote:so just for kicks, you do realize that if a rob and lee pan out to be successful players, your bad mojo theory would be totally out the window, correct? Well it would mean that they were able to rise above/ end it. And I'd really like to see them both exorcise the trend/ bad mojo. |
