Completely Different Atmosphere at The Bank

I was able to attend the Jaguars Coaches Clinic yesterday at the stadium and I have to tell you.....it's ALL BUSINESS down there with this staff.
This was my 5th or 6th one of these clinics that I have gone to and this was BY FAR had the most serious tone of any of them. It has always been pretty low key and light hearted at the OTA's that we are able to attend....usually have drinks out for the Coaches that attend the clinic and have been able to walk around most of the field and interact with the Jaguar staff. There was always music blaring and the players kinda half heartedly going through the motions. NOT THIS YEAR! We were roped off to the far endzone...and had no other access. There was no music playing......the players were at full speed and being WORKED.....I mean REALLY WORKED. One example of the mindset of this staff came during DLine blocking drills. One of the rookies missed his hand placement and the coach instantly blew the whistle....and apparently if that happens and he calls your name...it's 10 pushups....the rookie instantly hit the ground and gave 10. Two drills later Campbell jumped the gun and the coach blew the whistle...he instantly hit the ground and gave 10. It is VERY apparent that this is going to be a heavy Run Game Team.....I've NEVER seen the coaches have TE, WR and RB's hitting the sleds...but every group had a turn with the single and double sleds. Wheatley was REALLY emphasizing blocking techniques with the RB's....and was busting on Fournette all day!! It was a VERY high paced practice....especially for an OTA practice. Can't wait to see them with pads on. One thing is for sure....they are serious about the conditioning of this team...an hour and a half of practice....then finished up with gassers and stretch bands on field. Few things that I took away from the experience.... 1. Campbell is a MONSTER.....he is a humongous human being....you have no problem picking him out on the field 2. Blakes motion looks TONS better than from last year....I know it's early...but it was MUCH improved...he was also checking down his reads much quicker than he seemed to last year at OTA's. more than a few times he was checking down to his 3rd and 4th options. Again...know it's early and they aren't in pads...but just noticing improved techniques was a good thing. 3. Fournette is silly fast....and it looks effortless....had a few nice catches out of the backfield in traffic as well 4. ARob was catching everything thrown at him....had a beautiful corner of the endzone over his outter shoulder grab where his plinked his toes inbounds right in front of the ref....drew a lot of OHHS and AHHHS from the team. 5. Marquise Williams is a BEAST.....he was hitting the sled as hard as the Linemen...also overheard Wheatley praising him on his instincts and blocking techniques...he used him a few times as the "example" of how to correctly block 6. Linder seems to have put on some size...he looked huge out there...in a good way That's all I can remember off the top of my head. Was very surprised and was good to see the attitude and demeanor change that we saw....heard a LOT of the other coaches saying the same thing....and commenting on how much better prepared and conditioned it seems the team will be. This all seems like good news for this year. This team needed a heavy dose of discipline last year. It's good to see a business like approach out there. I think Campbell is going to be the tone-setter veteran leader we need. Great report!

Wheatley at one point had a side conversation with Fournette and said something like "keep you eyes on him....follow him wherever he takes you on the field....he is YOUR eyes now...and know that when the time comes to pop someone...he's gonna be the first one to pop...you just follow HIM" (06-09-2017, 02:55 PM)Go Jagwaas Derp Wrote: Thanks for the great info, Fournette is going to love Marquez WilliamsNot that watching Gerhert behind Alualu wasn't wondrous but damn I can't wait to see a real back behind another really good back plowing the field. ![]() ![]()

This made me smile. Thanks for posting. Speaking of coaching differences, one thing I noticed watching the video of Keenan McCardell working with the receivers that I have not seen utilized here before is equipment designed to teach receivers to come low in to and out of their cuts. Little things like that have always fascinated me. Worst to 1st. Curse Reversed!

Yeah...I can tell you one thing that I noticed immediately....when McCardell starts showing something to one of the WR's....ALL the WR's start paying attention....you can tell that they all really respect his coaching Also...one thing that really stood out was Cam Robinsons arm length and hand work....man the kid works his hands like a pro....the coaches were heavily coaching hand and arm techniques to the OLine all day. One other thing that really hit us all......not ONE time did we see anyone just standing around....If two linemen were hitting the sled....the others where squaring off and mocking snaps and such....also EVERYBODY ran to the next drill or session....and I can tell you for sure that Campbell and Jackson were the first two Linemen to arrive everytime....Jackson was on Campbells hip the WHOLE practice
This is some excellent news. For once in a very long time I am genuinely looking forward to what the team has to offer. Sadly it's from a distance but I'm looking forward to hearing reports and hopefully see some games.

Thanks for the write up. After all of the free agency excitement and the draft, this sort of stuff makes me think our biggest off season move was hiring an actual NFL head coach and not a cheerleader.
It sounds like the adults are back in charge, and that's encouraging. Hopefully the new focus will greatly benefit this team, and we will see quick returns.
Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
