Bortles Shines

#21

I'd love to see Bortles succeed. Wasn't a fan when he was drafted then he drew me in with his 2nd season.. Then I fell off the wagon again last season.. I hope he can bring it and consistently or he'll just be another wasted pick in Jags draft history.. So I'll save my optimistic views for the reg season if he deserves them.

I think Bortles has the talent. He's the type who needs constant reinforcement and discipline and Gus couldn't deliver. The tools are in place now. This will be a good season for Blake.

Give it a preseason game or two, but I think we'll see the progression we expected after 2015 and 2016 will be considered an anomaly.

IF that happens I see 7-9 as the floor for the season.

We're talking about practice... where you're not going to get hit... Do it in a game.

Honestly, any less than that this year must be looked at as a disappointment IMO. Obviously contingent on nothing ridiculous happening.

Well... they're not playing games yet. They are practicing. So we're gonna talk about practice for a couple weeks, is that OK with you Nancy?

Maybe you and the other troll above comparing Bortles to Gabbert should go hang out together with Alfie and Ryan?

I wonder why the Lions didn't dump Stafford. You all know that after he had a big year and the threw 41 TDs (and 16 INTs) he came back with 20 TDs and 19 INTs? Why in the world did the Lions not cut him? The next season he was worthless and threw 19 INTs. Clearly a terrible player, how insane are the Lions for still having him on their team?

Because of a word called context.

He was the #1 overall pick right?
And in 8 seasons or something what has he done?

What context do you need? He's never gotten close to that 41/16 year.

32/13 in 2015 was his next best. I mean... he was awful as a rookie, which is to be expected of most guys, especially one joining a really bad team.
Then he was injured. Then a spectacular season... and since.. he's been good not great. However... in the most recent two seasons (his 7th and 8th seasons) he's really brought his INTs down and minimized his fumbles which he had a lot of early.

Here's some context... Not every QB comes out firing out of the gate, especially when put on bad teams... Sometimes it takes some time to get them from bad to good.
Patience is a good thing. If Bortles stinks it up this year, you all will get your wish and he'll be gone.
But this idea that QBs need to be Rodgers or Brady in year 3 is insane.

The context is he went 4-12 after his big year then 7-9 with 19 INTs the next.

If the Jaguars go 7-9 with Bortles throwing 19 INTs how loud do you think the peanut gallery will be to can him?

None of that is to say Stafford is great or anything, but he's been to the playoffs three times in an eight year career. Is Bortles the one carrying the blame for the team not making the playoffs in 2015 when he had a game in which he threw five TDs and no INTs and still lost? I'm not saying Bortles is anything more than average so far in most ways, but even average in the NFL is very hard to find, and he might actually turn out better than that.

Well, that's nice that Bortles is having a good practice...  however, I'll wait to see what he does during the actual season before I pile accolades on him. Personal stats mean virtually nothing to me at this point as a fan. The only stat that matters at this point to me is the win record; anything else is irrelevant if we have another losing season.

What happens in practice isn't the same as a real game...just sayin'.
Losers make excuses...winners find a way to win.

I wanna see it in a game. Really Bortles needs to just cut down turnovers and he'd be decent.
No Fun

If his guys stop batting balls up for easy INTs it'll be a big help. Of course his INT percentage had gone down every season and he'll supposedly throw less this season so it all points to less turnovers. We'll see how it goes.
