A few questions for the fans attending tonight's practice

(This post was last modified: 07-29-2017, 03:12 PM by knarnn.)

Unfortunately I won't be able to attend as I'm out of town this weekend but I have a few questions for those that are able to do so. Being the first practice with pads I find myself getting cautiously excited.

What are the feeling/expectations of fans on the jags among those attending?

Does it seem as if the players are buying in? i.e no loafing on the field, running all out, high intensity.

How does the TE group look?

How do the WRs look?

How does Fowler look?

How does Jack look?

Evaluations on the secondary as a whole (being mindful Ramsey and Colvin are out)

Thoughts on Fournette?

Is TC out there lurking with his watchful eye?

Which coach, outside of Marrone, would make you want to run into a brick wall?

And obviously evaluations on Bortles.

Thanks for the requests. I will try my best to address these.

As for how the other fans feel, I can't tell, other than what I've seen on the boards thus far.

As for me? I am happy training camp has opened, and I think Marrone will make this team better, but there is not the giddiness normally associated with the start of camp. Maybe I am older. Maybe the malaise that everyone else has complained about has affected me too.

Thanks Bulleye. Looking forward to your evaluation.

The sky's the limit. Absolutely. Better without Julius. Fantastic. Like a beast. Like a faster Poz. They miss Ramsey and Colvin. Beast. Keenan. Beast.

He's been BBINT since we drafted him.

wow

Noticed on the FB live feed Campbell tossing AJ Cann aside like a rag-doll in a drill. Shatley appeared to struggle a bit in that drill too. Omameh showed some grit in the clip I watched.

I saw Campbell tossing Cann too, and he did it effortlessly, it was embarrassing.  Cann should not be a starter.

I realize this was just the 1st practice with pads, but the offense is way, way, way behind the defense. Once Ramsay and Colvin return, the defense should be by far the best we've seen around here in a long time. Clearly, Myles Jack needs more experience playing the middle, however once he gets some games under his belt I expect his speed and athleticism to even take the defense up another notch.

The only positive on offense was Fournette. He looks as good as advertised and should provide a lot of excitement for Jaguar fans. The 2 big concerns going into training camp, quarterback and offensive line, were even worse than I could have imagined. The defensive line constantly put pressure on the quarterbacks. Bortles' judgement was no better than last year. He could have even thrown a couple more interceptions, but a couple passes were dropped by defenders. Neither backup quarterback seems ready or able to start for an NFL team. I just can't understand why the Jaguars didn't either draft a q.b. in the top 3 rounds or pick up a free agent like Koeppernick. The same goes for the offensive line. Cam Robinson may eventually become a very solid left tackle, but he is not ready. Albert had an up and down practice- nothing great and none of the guards looked good. Caldwell should have taken Lamp in round 2 as he will be a solid starter for the Chargers beginning week 1.

I left tonight's practice feeling very disappointed about the upcoming season. Despite having a potentially top 5 defense, this team will continue to lose winnable games due to stupid turnovers and finish the season with between 6 and 8 wins. Normally, an improvement of anywhere from 3-5 more wins would be a positive but the schedule is weak. The defense will be mostly responsible for the victories, but by winning more games they will lose out on the top 2-3 quarterbacks in a very strong q.b. draft class. Hopefully this prediction will be wrong since our loyal fans deserve a winning team now.

Thanks for the report. What about Allen? By several reports he appears to have thrown well everyday, what was your impression of him last night? Thanks.

I would add Allen Robinson and Marqise Lee to the offensive positives.

Hard to say about Allen. Most of his passes were less than 10 yards during the 7 on 7's and 11 on 11's. They do need to see what he can do when the pre-season games begin.

As for the offensive line, I tend to cut Cam Robinson a little slack. It's his first NFL practice in pads. Let's look for improvement.

Yes, this receiving corps has the potential to be very good. My only concern is if the offensive line is able to give Bortles enough time to find these receivers. Robinson does appear to be on a mission this season.

Anyone noticed Smoot at all? I saw him get stonewalled in the video but other than that has he made an impression on anyone?

Not to me.  I know at one point he went up against Cam and got stonewalled.

Not too concerned with Blake's interceptions. At the surface it is a little disheartening but if you read between the lines I think 3 of the 5 were dead ball/sack plays anyways so maybe he took a little extra risk there and tested some defenders and lost. I am okay with a guy you need to dial it back with rather than a guy you need to dial it up. I really want Allen to secure QB2 this camp though, it sounds like he is on his way to doing just that. In the event Blake is utter garbage, at least we have a 2nd year QB we can look at to see if we need to go QB again in round 1.
