This signing doesn't really make sense. Must mean one of the other backs is soon gone.

Seems like a good teammate. Is he competing for Grant's spot? Jags already have 4 deep at RB. Saw that but sounded like a bad stinger and nothing too serious. Even if he is released there are what 6 or 7 others competing not including FB? RB seems least of the many issues/holes which is why it doesn't make sense to me at this point. But hey, this is the revolving door period so whatever makes this team better. ![]() (08-02-2017, 11:30 AM)B2hibry Wrote:(08-02-2017, 11:00 AM)NYC4jags Wrote: They just had a RB go to the hospital with a spinal cord injury yesterday. Could be a number of things. Maybe Joe D sees some sort of ST potential, maybe Caldwell or Coughlin had a really strong prospect file on him from their old scouting reports, maybe they are just highly motivated to get the best possible RB depth heading into a season during which they vow to pound the rock. And yes, like you mentioned, we've seen Caldwell move a lot of players on and off of the roster at this time of year before.

So, from what I read today, Gaffney was brought in to fill the vacancy left by Branden Albert when he retired. I don't get it? Instead of bringing in more competition at our weakest area (the O-Line), we bring in another RB? Unbelievable!

C'mon man.. if there were any O-Line bodies out there that would improve the team... they'd be in camp already.

I didn't have anybody specific in mind, but when I see the prospect of starting a rookie LT and a pair of subpar OG's for the season, I think I'd bring in as much competition as possible. Besides, do you really think Tyler Gaffney has a shot of sticking around as a RB? If you're going to just bring in bodies, at least bring in guys at your weakest spot. Man... right now they are splitting Oline reps with the guys we have, trying to get the best 5 figured out. Some scrub no one wants isn't going to help that situation But at RB, we want guys that can keep LF and Ivory fresh. You literally have like, 0 clue as to what you are talking about. You COULD make that argument about the draft... not drafting enough guys for what many perceived to be our weakest position group... but that ship has sailed bruh

You act like what we have on the O-Line are decent players. Other than Linder, all our projected starters have major question marks and many of our backups are what I would call "scrubs". I believe we could bring in some linemen from the Canadian league and they could at least compete for a backup O-Line position on this current roster. As for the RB's, I'm fine with who we already had on the roster.

You pretty much have Fournette, Ivory, maybe TJ Yeldon... then who? Keep in mind, Chris Ivory is "up there" in age when it comes to football years. Fournette is just a "paper" running back meaning that it's all about his "potential". After that you have Yeldon that has done well and shown some flashes, but is nowhere near the RB that someone like Ivory is. Next down the list you have the "others". As far as addressing the offensive line, who do you bring in that might challenge someone that we currently have? There are 10 kinds of people in this world. Those who understand binary and those who don't.

Why waste a roster spot on a "scrub" when you could get somebody that could potentially challenge the "3rd down RB" spot or possibly be an answer for special teams? O-Line is the weakest part of the team, because when you have guys like Josh Wells, Tyler Shatley and Chris Reed in the mix for starting positions that shows how paper thin you are at those positions. The only O-Line spot I'd say is secure is Center with Linder and Bowanko. As far as the RB's it doesn't really matter. Runners are only as good as the blockers they have in front of them. In order for any of our RB's to have success, they have to have some open running lanes and none of our linemen could open lanes at all last season. This year, we'll have almost the same exact guys on the O-Line. How should we expect a different outcome? I don't see where we'll have much of a difference on the offensive side of the ball, from what we saw last season.
Coughlin doesn't have a clue what he's doing. He should really consider tapping this message board for expert personnel moves.
There are dozens of potential all pro offensive lineman just sitting out there on the wire waiting for a phone call, either former NFL players, or from the Canadian, Arena, or European club leagues that they should be scouring to bring in to save this season. It's as if Tom Coughlin has never played Madden or something What a clueless dolt! FIRE COUGHLIN!!!! The drama queen is strong on this board. Let's see how things play out over the next several weeks. If the team is still struggling to find the right combination as preseason progresses, other teams are going to be releasing guys to pare their rosters down. There will more than likely be some talent that hits the wire as they get down to their opening day rosters that this team could benefit from snagging. Or, they might just have the right guys on the roster already despite all of the experts here who have done their evaluation and have deemed them sub-par. God forbid we let the guys getting paid to make these decisions do their job. If an upgrade to the OL can be had at this point, the team would have pulled the trigger. Clearly, they haven't seen anyone out there that fits the bill for what they feel are the biggest needs, and I would have to say that if anyone knows how to build an offensive line, it's TC. As far as signing a running back with a roster opening, it's about reps, and keeping balance during these pretty intense practices. You've lost a running back to a neck injury, so you need to have a body on the roster to fill that role. The odds of Gaffney actually making this team on opening day are about as good as some of the armchair GMs in this thread being given the ability to call the shots for a day at EverBank. Barring a rash of injuries that make him a necessity, he's just visiting. Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
