NE joint practices

Agreed... better idea in that we get game style situation practice. But still gonna be a lot of backups.

I don't think we'll (the fans) have a solid idea of what to expect until week 3 preseason when we get a long look.

Last season preseason games 1 and 2 we were excited by the bits we saw.
Then against the bengals most saw through it (I didnt) but I remember a lot of people saying it wasn't good. And it was primetime..... The way they played a game planned (albeit preseason game plan) and the way the Oline got no push and the Dline got no pressure, Bortles inaccurate...

Come regular season... we saw a lot of what we saw in preseason week 3... and as the pressure mounted and losses added up in the regular season... Bortles played worse, then the changes in staff started coming...

6 games, people. 6 games. There's no doubt that during the season it's going to appear the spirit of Gus is haunting the sidelines. But winning 6 games will be definitive proof that we are improving.

That is a failure of a season.

Unacceptable. We should have won more than 3 last season...
6 wins is awful.

They couldn't cover our receivers, nor block our DTs and DEs. The fact our third string CBs couldn't cover Cook doesn't concern me. The sky is not falling!

It's the reports I am hearing that Blake has not gotten any better.   Plus the reports that New England stuffed our running game.

It (the practices against NE) was a reality check.  We were 3-13 last year, and 6-10 would be a doubling of the win total.   Going from 3-13 to 9-7 might be asking a bit much.

Maybe we'll get better during the season.   Rome wasn't built in a day.  Coaching is a long term proposition, and if Marrone is a better head coach than Bradley, it will show up eventually.   But we're starting at 3-13.  And Bortles doesn't appear to be any better yet.   Neither does our offensive line.

Correct me If I'm wrong, but I believe all teams start at 0-0. You wanna seat at 3-13 have at it.

6 wins wouldn't be considered an improvement. You'd have to be pretty deluded to think that means we're going to come back and be a 10+ win team the following year. As bad as it was last year we should have won 4 or 5 games. If this is going to be a solid winning franchise again we will know it. We need to be in the playoff race towards the end or I'm still left speculating.
No pain, no gain.

Ill buy 6 wins in order to be able to say they showed improvement, but this team has the potential to win a few more if they do things right. Do that, and we will really see improvement.

I agree. 6 wins is about what I expect from the club this year. But I could see a game or two or three going down to the wire that could possibly (hopefully) swing in our favor. A turnover here, a special teams score there, a bad call by the ref and we could be in the thick of it come December.

Summing up the last week:

Jags Media: "The Jags look like an improved team, so much more focused and disciplined!  Borltes looks like he has stopped drinking and his mechanics are fixed. We went toe-to toe with the Champs, we're getting closer!"

Pats Media: "Oh man, these Jags are in way over their heads, looking up at the World Champs in Friggin Awe. Brady is Forty, Flity and Flawless!!! cute little Jagwars they are hilarious - Cooks and Brady going 19-0 this year guys"

So, with the Bucs coming to town next week, does that mean we get to see the Jags on "Hard Knocks"?

They aren't playing against a clock.

They aren't keeping score.

It's all "situational", no real down-and-distance stuff.

Both teams are using vanilla formations and plays that are probably very predictable.

Both teams (I assume) have starters sidelined for one reason or another.

They aren't really tackling or rushing the QB at 100%.  Players are "letting up" early.

I could go on, but my point is that practice != game.

Even Thursday's pre-season game isn't a real solid indicator, though it will give a better idea than practice.

Agree.  We'll learn a lot more about this team tonight than we would from any practice sessions. Still, the first preseason game is usually the one the team is least scripted for as the coaching staff is more focused on continuing situational awareness and not so much on game planning.

Tonight will be a great opportunity to get an idea of the direction this new group is working toward.
