Your larger point remains sound, though.

The entire point doesn't make sense. The Chargers are a terrible team with a great QB. Unless Bortles can prove otherwise we're the opposite (though I'd call this team okay rather than great).

He wasn't making a roster by roster comparison.

His point was that if you have a young QB with the potential to be good/great and let him go before realizing that potential, unless you have a ready replacement or a defense equal to the 2000 Ravens, your team will pay the price.

It doesn't matter much if we have a better overall roster than the Bolts.  If Bortles is a good passer and we let him go, this team will not likely accomplish more than the Bolts.

Worst to 1st.  Curse Reversed!

Oh right, I keep forgetting the Chargers had Drew Brees before they got Rivers. To be fair though; even they kept Brees they still wouldn't have been much better than they are now.

in an article dated April 2, 2012, Blaine Gabbert said: "My expectations are definitely higher this year," Gabbert said. "I have a full offseason ahead of me and a great coaching staff. The pieces of the puzzle are coming together."

Sounds like Bortles.

That was the funniest thing I ever saw on TV.   "The topic is, People Who Annoy You."

Yeah I'm not sure I get the analogy.
The bolts have never been that bad until recently, hovering .500 or better most seasons, and I'd blame it on not re-tooling a defense and injuries on offense... not the QB
Last terrible season they had was early 2000s when LT was a rookie and the couple seasons before getting him.

And I wouldn't call them a terrible team right now either... that defense is coming along with (Unless Gus ruins it) and if the O stays healthy they could challenge in a very good division.
