Remember that chart in the other thread with the percentage of pass versus run plays based on alignments? Yeah, don't want to see that, even in a preseason game. I also don't want to see starters beyond one series. I want to see how deep this roster really is.

Play calling will likely be very predictable, so don't get too caught up in that.  Coaches will be looking at one on one matchups and team chemistry more than trying to be creative calling plays.

Aside from Bortles' progress, I'm looking at the trenches too.

Understand play calling will be very vanilla, but it doesn't need to be extremely predictable like three wide set always means pass or two tight ends always mean run (see 2016). Get me? No doubt it's glorified practice and more about individual ability in this first game. Not sure we'll see much of Bortles, Fournette or frontline receivers.

I'll be looking at DeDe, Bow, Jack, and Grant vs. Yeldon (for that last RB spot).

Why are all you guys talking about how Bortles is gonna suck tonight?
Bortles has never been bad in the preseason, his rookie year he was great for a rookie, last year he was really good, they talked about how the Tampa game we drove down the field first 2 drives and scored TD's, we prob didnt do that all regular season.

He was never going to cost that much - The Pats were trying to build some hype around him to build leverage and nobody took that bait over the off-season which I think is a mistake on NE's part, because his value is going to drop this off-season

Also, If you know the outcome would be a super bowl championship then absolutely, but then fans wouldn't have the chance to play 20/20 hindsight Champion and where is the fun in that?

I'll consider tonight good so long as two things happen:

#1. Nobody important gets injured
#2. Bortles doesn't throw more than 1 intereception

Jimmy G is an UFA next season.

So... unless he tears up the preseason and New England sends him off this year somewhere after an injury or something...
We won't need to do something as silly as trade 2 firsts. Ol' Bill was trying to Cassell fleece the Brownies this year, I think...

I hope Jimmy G does play well.. and I hope he hits the market next offseason. I want the Jaguars to have as many options as possible if Bortles doesn't perform well this season.

Signing Garoppolo to a free agent contract while drafting a QB high would be the perfect kind of scenario. Even more so than giving a blockbuster deal to Cousins.

We'll see how good he looks tonight... he won't be throwing VS our best DBs though... and he won't be throwing to some of New England's best targets.

Not sure why all the love for Jimmy G. He has had a few good games as a starter but often struggles with reads. I believe he has more interceptions this training camp period than Bortles and all reports I've seen are that he is continuing to struggle in camp. Maybe different under the lights? I guess we'll get a healthy dose during tonight's game but I'm not sold that he would be much of an upgrade if any.

I have not... don't lump me in with you losers. (I have long said Bortles needs to perform better, and I believe with training and coaching he can)

I still have belief he can turn it around this season.
I have high expectations of Bortles this season and if he fails to meet those expectations I will certainly be ready to move on from him. Lucky for me, the team will too, and I won't have to wallow for a half a season and an offseason about it.

I don't want Bortles benched right now.
I want him to succeed. He's my quarterback.

You all know one damn thing that is absolutely guaranteed tonight as sure as the sunset?

The cheatriots will be cheating. Our boys better watch for hair pulling and knee shots. Both of which occurred during joint practices.

I have the Pats beating the Jags in a close one tonight with Brady leading them down the field in the final 2 minutes ending up in the Pats kicking a game winning field goal with 2 seconds on the clock.

This can't be for real.

Is that from today?

Not sure why that's in this thread, but I would mind it. Would have made more sense to do it back in FA though.

Is Tom pulling another Brunell with McCarron?

I kind of want to see him grind out a few first downs then punch it in the endzone.. I could care less about a long run tonight... if that happens, he won't see anymore snaps until next week.

Lol .... Omaha will most likely make his return if he can break away from the other Duval Pride website that we're competing against.
