Jaguars Cornerback Position

#21

On the eve of final cut-downs, I'm now wondering if Tracy Howard might have made the roster. I hadn't really considered him until just now after watching the fourth preseason game, but he really showed up in that game. I noticed him prior games as well and wondered why he was getting so much playing time, but now I wonder if he's managed to claim a spot.

I see 5 CBs making it, and the first four are undoubtedly Ramsey, Bouye, Colvin and Patmon. I'd be shocked if I'm wrong about Patmon here. The last guy is the tough call. I was thinking that Jean-Baptiste might have beat out Dixon for the role after the Panthers game because he showed up with an INT and stood out for his size-speed combination. But I now wonder if Howard might have caught their eye in the final game enough to claim that last spot.

With this in mind, my CB ranking going into the final cut-down is...

  1. Jalen Ramsey
  2. AJ Bouye
  3. Aaron Colvin
  4. Tyler Patmon
  5. Tracy Howard
  6. Stanley Jean-Baptiste
  7. Brian Dixon
  8. Doran Grant
  9. Jalen Myrick
Grant and Myrick project to the Practice Squad.

Also, I'm wondering if maybe they can take Jean-Baptiste and move him to FS as the 5th S. He just might be the guy they thought they were getting in James Sample. If Jarrod Harper goes on IR, they only have four Ss on their roster with Barry Church, Tashaun Gipson, Jarrod Wilson and Peyton Thompson.

Ramsey - Bouye - Colvin - Patmon - Dixon -

Myrick and Jean Baptiste to the PS

Tracy Howard is a wild-card.
No idea how the team sees him. He has return experience as well.

I agree with '02, Jean-Baptiste outplayed Dixon and has more upside. But I consider it more likely the Jags keep Dixon.

Jean-Baptiste is a 4-year vet so I don't think he's eligible for the PS. In fact, the only guys eligible appear to be Grant and Myrick.

Hasn't dixon already been cut?
Go Jags!
*To stay up for atleast 2 years 3/6/17
2016 draft players I think will be good
  • On the Fournette train, will be best back of his class 3/6/17
  • Lattimore please,  Lockdowns on both sides would be nice
  • Engram at TE and the MJD clone Samaje Perine

The Jaguars are not listing him among their cuts on the official site, but I ran across this at CBS Sports...

Players cut to reach 53: TE Caleb Blueitt, OL Malcolm Bunche, LB P.J. Davis, LB Akeem Dent, CB Brian Dixon, CB Charles James, RB Jonathan Grimes, RB DuJuan Harris, CB Charles James II, G Nila Kasitati, DT Tueni Lupeamanu, OLB Carroll Phillips, WR Larry Pinkard, OL Demetrius Rhaney, WR Jamal Robinson, CB Dwayne Thomas, FB Marquez Williams

They list Dixon and Kasitati as having been cut??? Both are still listed on the team's official roster.

I have to wonder if an unfortunate situation arises and neither Jalen or Bouye can play, then who is next man up on the outside? Colvin has been widely regarded as a pure nickel corner. Patmon to me looks like a Colvin type. That leaves Myrick who is a 7th round rookie. I guess you got to roll with Colvin on the outside in that event.

Risky move putting Myrick on the 53. I wonder if we see a waiver wire CB and TE added today.

There were some outdated names on the roster at this time last year. I don't know what's up with the official website being incorrect on some players.
