So many people pretending to have paid attention to the flag and anthem prior to this week. I'm sure they got off their couches when it happened to be covered on tv (the networks usually went to commercial).
Now people are pretending to be bothered - even though it's never part of the actual game and hardly, if ever, mentioned once the actual game begins. Have to hand it to Trump - he knows how to find the soft spot of pretend outrage. Only three more years. What scares me more, though, is that the national anthem and flag have been made into sacred cows. It's not the lyrics or the cloth that matter; it's the idea behind them. When we subjugate what the flag stands for to the flag itself and act accordingly, we've started down a dangerous path. Do you not see how Trump is exploiting national pride to his purposes? At the risk of sounding like a broken record, players kneeling wasn't a big deal until Trump chimed in with his $.02. He called any human being and citizen who exercised their First Amendment right while not breaking any rules or laws a son of a [BLEEP] who should lose their jobs. He went off script like a coward, in front of sycophants, then doubled down because it played so well to his base.

Nothing wrong with that I guess - there are plenty of people like that. You know - sit around with you friends and make jokes about Obama (having nothing to do with his race (of course)) and jokes about Hillary (have nothing to do with her gender (of course) and calling anyone with a differing thought a whiny liberal. Boring, but at least predictable.

They have guidelines. Like many of the guidelines it's up to the league or from team to team whether to use them or not. Flipped it on its head from what appeared to be a protest about inequality of some form to a "clap back" on Trump. As dumb as that sounds. The show on Sunday was based almost fully on Trump's comments, instead of the original protest. The whole thing is so convulated now that's it's turned into an ice bucket challenge type of thing where everybody's just doing it for the sake doing it. Funnily enough Kap originally got the idea to kneel during the anthem based on advice from military members he consulted. It was aimed at being a good way to protest but also pay respects at the same time. The whole thing is a mess now anyway and without an actual practical plan being put in place by the players and the billionaires who got a good photo opp in over the weekend then it means very little. Football, the flag, and the anthem were symbols of things that people could come together and enjoy. Look at this message board. There are so many different types of people with different beliefs, but when football is on TV, they come together and just enjoy it. Football shouldn't be a political statement. It's meant to be entertainment. (09-27-2017, 11:52 PM)JagNGeorgia Wrote:It's not hard to separate the two.(09-27-2017, 08:42 PM)flsprtsgod Wrote: The real question: When will it stop?

It was like the players way of flipping him off. In fact, I don't think what we saw this past week had much to do with racial injustice at all for most of the players involved, it was just a way to stick it to the president and tell him to mind his own business and get back to work.
