Jaguars statement on inequality

In one swoop he's managed to eliminate players kneeling during the anthem and turned the protest from something to do with inequality and police brutality into some incredibly vague and pointless show of "unity". The whole protest is now gentrified to the point that Northwestern are now linking arms in a show of "unity". Kaps original message has been completely diluted and the NFL teams are bowing down to public pressure calling on them to stop the kneeling during the anthem.

The funny thing is even if they kneel before the anthem they're going to get the exact same feedback from the exact same kind of people.  It's a lose lose for them.

Yes, it's a lose-lose for the NFL.

Had they just enforced their Operations Manual requirement when Kaep first sat with the same zeal that they enforce the color of a player's spikes, there would be no problem. But give an inch and eventually you'll live to regret it.
I don't have a problem with anyone of it but yeah it probably could have been avoided if the NFL was a bit smarter.

Actually in my eyes the national anthem before every game should be ditched altogether. Maybe for the playoffs and super bowl but no need for every game.

Wanna talk about real social injustice? Visit a Native American Reservation. Those people have every reason in the world to whine and complain, but you never hear a peep out of them unless we try to run a pipeline through their ancestral homeland. It's land that was promised to them via the Treaty of Fort Laramie and surprise, surprise, was taken back and set aside for private use. Native Americans have always been repressed by this country, but it's everyone else that wants to complain about their own conditions. How ironic.

That's my whole problem with the "protest" when does it end, when every black person is satisfied? When every cop is veritably void of prejudice? Maybe when the ratio of white, spanish and asian inmates matches that of blacks?

victim mentality it's the downfall of any society. By LAW we all have equal access to opportunity not success, that's better than any other society on the face of the earth has done. Less time protesting more time working and mentoring that's how you get real change.

Statistics indicates police violence is disproportional against blacks.  There are sources and studies that indicate that black people are 3 times more likely to be subjected to violence, especially fatal violence from police than white people.  You're statement seems to indicate that black people are out to get police and that's simply not what this thing is about.

By LAW we do have equal access to opportunity but practice and theory do not always go hand in hand.  Blaming the victims by telling them they're just not working hard enough is a symptom of the issue. It's subtle. Hell, racism is subtle.

Blaming the victim?  Horse carp.  Oonly 27% of black kids are in two parent homes.  That's the leading cause of crime, violence, lack of social mobility etc. Etc.  Any conversation on CHANGE that doesn't begin and end there is wasting our time.

I'm I wrong for not caring about corporate songs?

Am I the only watching this poorly scripted game being constructed in a sad attempt to get people to care again?

This is the second thread you mentioned corporate song and even quoted yourself to say it twice here.

We'll go on, explain the corporate song angle to us.

I just don't get why people are up in arms about a song dedicated to a corporation. Especially one rooted in hate and bigotry. I mean it propaganda. Chill out youngin's.

Besides, none of these guys care either way. Their just trying to get paid baby. It's like lions laying with sheep around this piece.

I will not watch these guys today. Why, well see below

Until they cease using the national anthem to push their opinions on social issues I will boycott these guys. Actors and athletes alike should understand they need us not the other way around. We are as intelligent and in most cases more.  Carrying a football, blocking, tackling people really doesn't add real value to people's lives. Farmers, truck drivers, the clerk at the store.  They should be thankful we pay our hard earned money and spend our valuable time on their sport. We are the customers and they all owe us a very large apology. Such self centered people. (players commentators, owners, the entire NFL organization) Their mothers would be ashamed on them.

I've more or less lost the ability to care. It's turned from a protest about inequality into a sideshow about giving Trump the finger. The best answer at this point is to just leave teams in the locker room until after the anthem.

The whole idea of a reservation is long outdated. There's no reason American Indians shouldn't just blend in with the rest of the citizenry. It's not like they are still preserving some pre-European culture (casinos, cough cough). The logical thing would be to give every person on a reservation an equal fraction of the land and other assets and let them individually do what they want, dissolving the reservation. I suspect the tribal leaders are the ones who benefit from the status quo and are opposed to it.

BTW, the Dakota pipeline was not routed through Indian land. The accusation was that it was routed through an old Indian burial ground on non-reservation land. Since there was already an existing pipeline there, that ship had sailed for everyone but the environmental activists opposed to every pipeline. They were just using American Indians in this case.

The Dakota pipeline is a special kind of clusterfrag all around. Using it as an example of anything is dubious at best, because both sides were right and both sides were very wrong.

I can understand the concept of a reservation and why we still have it. Native Americans are essentially holding on to semi-sovereign powers over what little land they have left. I wouldn't be in favor of disbanding them, as I'm sure many Native Americans wouldn't either, but I do think they could stand to integrate more with the communities around them (if there are any).

What statistics are you talking about? If you're talking about the percentage of those killed by police compared to their percentage of total population doesn't equate the number of violent felonies committed or their number of encounters with law enforcement.

They're so self centered that they donated millions of dollars to hurricane relief. They do more for their communities than you or I. They go visit children in the hospitals all the time.

But yea.... They're so self centered.

I was watching as they panned the crowds during the anthem. As usual, a few singing, most standing quietly, many with hands over their hearts, but more than a few showing their usual disinterest and impatience for the game to begin.

But yeah, they are all passionate patriots ready to boycott the game they love because teams react to criticism of one of their own.

It was a matter worthy of debate but only a minor distraction in the big scheme of things until the Distractor-in-Chief chimed in.

Nobody said players are supposed to kneel for change. It is just what they do to raise awareness. Now teams are expressing unity by linking arms instead, making it look better to all the people who thought kneeling is disrespecting the U.S. flag and military.

An "equal society" does not exist anywhere on Earth, including the United States.

I said it's the most equal society in the history of man kind. Everyone has a legal right to the same opportunities that's the best anyone can do. There will never be equall success or wealth, that's my problem with the "protest for unity" I don't care if they're standing, kneeling, linking arms, or anything else, they're protesting a perception that isn't reality and can't ever be satisfied. It goes along with the protest just to protest mentality we seem stuck in right now.

it's the cause I take issue with not the action.

Asian Americans are hugely discriminated against in college admissions just to keep the diversity levels similar to their proportion in the general population.

If anything, the government discriminates in favor of African Americans in college admissions, hiring laws, and police interaction. One can argue that even more should be done to make up for the centuries of disadvantage before the Civil Rights Act, but not that the opportunity is less at present in the US.

Here is something you don't realize: It is not just "Black people have jobs." What jobs do they have? I have had many black cab drivers. I had black coworkers at entry level jobs. Are black people just as likely as whites to get jobs that require college degrees (and I mean actually being employed, not just getting the degree) or are they mostly making low wages? Show me statistics on racial profiles for Americans who are in poverty because they can't get high-paying jobs while whites in the same areas are affluent. I don't know any numbers, but it is common knowledge that many cities are like this.
