Las Vegas Shooting

Now they're saying he set up a camera in the room and filmed himself while he perpetrated the event. I'd be shocked if there isn't some sort of manifesto already in possession of the authorities (perhaps he spoke to the camera) or possibly still on its way. Maybe he dropped something in the mailbox Sunday morning and it hasn't reached its destination yet.

Off topic, I just ruined my work computer, your profile pic is hilarious.

Yet, routinely issued warnings were handed out for the same type kind of thing when the former President was in office. I do recall you being fairly upset about those.

Double standard much?

I thought I knew a good amount about guns, being a gun owner myself, but until this incident, I had never even heard the word, "bumpstock".

So, Paddock is lonely and rich.  He has very simple tastes.  Eats at Taco Bell, has absolutely no decorations in his house, just a few basic pieces of furniture - a bed, a couple of recliners, a kitchen table.  So the big gun collection doesn't really fit his profile.  Neighbor said he had a giant safe in the garage.  That also seems kinda fishy because of the high temperatures.  Why not have the safe in the air-conditioned house?  Because he wasn't really a gun guy.  He was storing them short-term for this planned attack.  He apparently had 4 identical high-end ARs from Daniel Defense.  Could just be a bored rich guy spending money, but it doesn't have the typical traits of somebody pursuing an interest or hobby.  A doomsday prepper might want identical ARs to use in a small family group, but Paddock showed no other signs of being a prepper.

Where does Danley fit in?  She sure travels a lot.  I think I read she was in Dubai?  Why would she be there?  How about the time frame?  Was he buying all these guns before or after he met her?  Could an old doofus like Paddock really get radicalized over some middle-aged tang?

Have you seen her?  I doubt the casinos are using her to allure high rollers with her womanly wiles.

She is a curious character in this entire situation, and she may very well have at a minimum influenced his decision to go on a spree like this.  She is from the Philippines, and there are some radical groups that operate there that have associations with ISIS and al Qaeda.  Not suggesting she's a Muslim, or that he had any ties with terrorist groups, but anything is possible these days.

As has been the case since the shooting occurred, there's a lot of bad information flying around out there that's tainting the ability to look at this using all the facts.  I've heard she was in Australia, the Philippines, and now Dubai.  Everyone is racing to break a story, and half the nonsense you see out there is wrong.  We'll find out the truth, as best we can, soon enough.

Hearing protection when hunting or plinking. It doesn't get rid of the noise it just lowers the volume below a db level that won't cause permanent damage. It's still quite loud with ammo that isn't sub-sonic.

That's what ear plugs are for.

This guy doesn't really fit any of the narratives they usually have for these types of massacres. I'm sure we'll hear more details as the days go by but I don't think this is the case of a man who suddenly became insane.

He doesn't really appear to be that loner type on the fringe of society either. I have a morbid curiousity in his tale now for better or worse.

This guy had this very well planned. Apparently he had cameras set up on a food cart outside of his room.

Ever worn earplugs for an extended period? How about try to communicate with hearing protection in place? Contrary to what you may believe, there is a purpose outside of the movies.

What if I don’t NEED one but really just want to buy one? I don’t need to come up with justification to buy a second vehicle.

Nobody needs suppressors unless they're performing a "hit." There are other options for hearing protection.

Absolutely. I shoot with earplugs in. I used to work at a trap shooting club and I wore my ear plugs all day. I also will wear them when I go to tractor pulls. I don't know what the big deal is?

As I said before, there are other options for hearing protection besides suppressors. You may want one, but the only real purpose for them is to help avoid detection when performing a "hit."

(10-03-2017, 02:09 PM)Jamies_fried_chicken Wrote: Alright here are my thoughts on this.

I am pro bear arms, however their is a serious problem with gun violence and how it coincides with mental illness, and schizophrenia every time a mass shooting occur.

Here are my feelings on gun control and what needs to be done to improve it. First there needs to be a federal ban on semi automatic assault weapons, pump rifles with a limitation on shotguns. Limit the number of guns a person can own. A person does not need to own no more than 2 handguns for protection and 2 for hunting purposes. limit the amount of ammo a gun owner can buy and store in a 24 month period, noone should stockpile ammunition that can last them years. Ex. A S&W carries 9 clips, whatever you use during that year you would have to wait until next year to get some more unless you fire the weapon in the case of a possible crime (police report would need to be on hand) for an exemption.

Limit the amount of guns a manufacturer can produce, ship to, and sell in the U.S. Impose a higher sales tax, maybe like 25% of all gun sales, 30% for ammo. Any gun owner who commits a first time violent offense whether its a misdemeanor or felony automatically forfeits their right to own any gun of any kind. If a person who has never committed a offense begins taking medication that alters a person's mental state they automatically lose their gun rights.  Strengthen background checks to where a gun seller must provide the federal government all access to his inventory and view what he has sold to and to whom.

Also im very curious as to why this hasn't been ruled a terrorist act. There are multiple reports stating Paddock wired 100,000 to the Phillipines.

I'll address your first paragraph.

First off, you said that there "needs to be a federal ban on semi automatic assault weapons".  Why?  What is the definition of a "semi automatic assault weapon"?

Next you seem to "know" what every person needs a firearm for and how many they "need".  I'll let you in on a little secret...  I own more than 2 handguns, more than 2 rifles and more than 2 shotguns.  They aren't all for the purpose of protection and/or hunting.

Limiting the amount of ammo that a person can purchase and/or store does nothing but add more burden to law abiding citizens.  I buy my ammo in bulk because I shoot just about on a weekly basis.  I have no idea what you mean about "a S&W carries 9 clips" and I don't think that you do either.

Your second paragraph is just a bunch of mindless gibberish.

Regarding some of the misinformation being spread in this thread...

As far as purchasing a fully automatic weapon legally... it's pretty rare and very hard to do.

Modifying a semi-automatic firearm to make it fully automatic is not very difficult for the mechanically inclined using some basic and reletivly inexpensive tools.  However, the majority of regular gun owners would never do such a thing because a) it devalues the firearm, b) if it's done wrong the firearm might be rendered unusable, and finally c) it is very illegal and cause for a person to lose quite a bit up to and including their concealed permit (if they have one) as well as their freedom for a while.

As far as "needing" a semi-automatic weapon either a rifle or a handgun, that's just personal preference.  As an example, I own several different rifles that range from muzzle loaders, to lever action, bolt action and semi-automatic.  I enjoy shooting each and ever one.  The lever action rifle that I own happened to be my great-grandfather's saddle rifle that he carried in the late 1800's and early 1900's (Winchester 30-30).  In fact, it was the very first rifle that I used for hunting at the age of 10.

The same could be said regarding handguns.  I own both revolvers and semi-automatic handguns and enjoy firing each one.

Regarding "silencers" or "suppressors", that accessory could be purchased for a wide variety of weapons.  People buy them for various reasons, but I can assure you that their purpose is not to "avoid detection when making a hit".  I personally don't own any since I am accustomed to wearing both hearing and eye protection when I shoot.  As someone pointed out earlier, pop off a few rounds with no hearing protection on and your hearing will be diminished.

Finally, one other argument that you hear from "anti gun" activists who are very much uninformed is the capacity of a firearm.  Again, this is a matter of preference.  When out shooting, sometimes it's inconvenient to reload during sessions so magazines with extra capacity are convenient.  I also purchased extra magazines for some of my semi-automatic firearms as well as some speed loaders for some of my revolvers just for this purpose.

The bottom line is, we already have laws on the books that regulate gun control.  Further laws would not prevent the tragedy of this past weekend or any of the other tragedies in the past.  All more restrictive laws would do is make it more difficult for somebody like me, a sport shooter to enjoy one of my hobbies.
