He's not THE issue, but if we're looking for solutions replacing him with a traditional run stuffing DT like Roy/Pot Roast is about the only option. As you said the rest of the defensive pieces are pretty locked in.

Pot Roast officially retired, so he is not an option.

Perhaps that explains why he followed Pot Roast and JDR to Denver. However he retired after playing for the Cowboys.

Being last in run defense is HUGE the week before facing Le'Veon Bell.

From what I have read, the only RB better than Le'Veon Bell is David Johnson.

Our defense has flipped. Used to be all we could do was stop the run. Now, we have arguably a top 5 rush/cover combo, WE FINALLY FORCE TURNOVERS, but we’re getting gashed in the run. Poor run defense won’t get us far in the playoffs in the event that we somehow make it there.

Good news: we’re doing what we haven’t done in over a decade by covering so well that it allows pass rush to get home.

Bad news: if you don’t stop the run then you can’t be taken seriously as a physical team.

Side news: turnovers. At long last, finally.

To say who is the best back is nothing but an opinion.  Don't believe everything you read.  Every now and then you should have some opinions for yourself.

You said yourself we will play against the best RB in the league. Are you being a hypocrite now?

We shut out the Ravens until our backups came in and they benched Joe Flacco. I don't think people cared too much about having a bad run defense after that game.

Well, if the majority of the teams we face are not elite rushing offenses, then we should be ok

No.  The mistakes we’ve made have to do with our lack of execution, not the opposing teams’ elite rush game.  Which is overall a good thing.  Means we can correct it instead of having to wait for different personnel.

More importantly, if we expect to compete in December, and in this division, run defense is paramount. I’m loving our pass D, but we can’t keep missing gaps and blowing tackles.

I’ll go Coach McKay on these fools if we continue to see this.

But it really doesn't have a ton to do with execution I don't think. The huge gains yes we avoid those by stopping the overpursuing, but we are going to be a liability with the personnel we have all year I think. We have a light front 4 without a true nose tackle type and Yannick being one of the worst DEs against the run, and then our linebackers in nickel (which is the majority of snaps) are very light too.

We just have to accept we are going to get run on with such a light front (it obviously has its advantages in pass rushing and pass defense) and make extra sure we don't get gashed for the chunk plays.
