Fournette's Ankle

(This post was last modified: 11-15-2017, 09:21 PM by JackCity.)

Think this storyline deserves a bit more burn. I haven't seen much from the local guys but I think Fournettes health is a big concern.

He had chronic ankle problems all through college, he had the ankle injury in preseason and now he's had an injured ankle for the last while. It seems his ankle issues remain "chronic".

He's obviously very talented and a very good player but are we ever going to see a healthy Fournette for a full year?

It was a significant part of the reason I didn't want anything to do with him in the top 5.

I'm sure they did no research or medical evaluation before drafting him.

Was Fred Taylor's issues chronic?

Dude RBs are a dime a dozen in today's NFL. Enjoy him while he's here. When one is done; you grab another one. That's why they don't earn much money compared to other positions. That's the biz.

I'm not worried. As JNev said, he's missed one game.

No pitchforks here. I love Fournette. Its just a valid issue right now, his ankle was bothering him against the chargers. He's on the injury report this week for his ankle.

Of course they did a medical evaluation and thought it was worth the gamble. Happens all the time. Doesn't mean they were right or wrong yet.

Overblown. The question is who would you have taken over him at the time? Seems to have worked out better than Watson (who I wanted)

Typical homer.

If you knew Watson was going to be this good, youd still take him for a 6 game this season for a future good QB over a 3 yr RB rental. Come on son. Dont front.

If Watson lives up and plays next season as he did this year, you cant tell me you’d be fine.

Not if we get Mayfield or Rudolph and we still have our elite RB in Fournette.  If we get Mayfield or Rudolph we will win the SB within 2 years

Get Fournette in touch with the trainer of Steph Curry.

Curry had terrible ankle issues his first 2-3 seasons. Then did some kind of crazy core workout and no more ankle problems.

Typical hater lol. Why would I take a 6 game season and go most likely 5-11 with the same hurt qb and possibly the same results or worse next year than a 6-3 record with a top 7 rusher who can play today and is being managed properly by the coaches while still being able to add a qb next year lol.

We so totally made the right choice and the record proves it. Injuries happen. I wanted Watson but after seeing how the season has gone the correct choice was made. He may not even be the same player. Fournette could have still played but since they plan on making a deep playoff run the have decided to manage his snaps. It’s okay. He’ll be good and healthy to run all over y’all the last game of the season.

Injuries happen, but it shouldn't make you say a pick was right or wrong in hindsight. By that logic it would really suck if Fournette gets hurt again and we're all forced to admit it would have been better to take McCaffrey.

Unfortunately you are correct. Part of drafting is taking the guy who will be available. That’s why medical is a part of the draft process. That’s why we can use hindsight to know if you drafted the right guy or not because we watched it play out. I do believe the team passed on Watson due to his ACL in college. I have no knowledge of that and just learned that myself recently. Fournette’s ankle was known and they maybe knew they would need to manage him to ensure he makes it through the whole season. As long as the plan works and he performs it’s the right pick.

Unfortunately luck does go into drafting the right player

For the most part, RB's are a "dime a dozen" in today's NFL.  It's gotten to the point to where "elite" RB's are pretty much close to the same.  Take a look for example at David Johnson.  Many considered him "elite", yet he has been out after week 1 with a wrist injury.  He may not even play another down this season (given Arizona's season thus far).

Fans are so impatient nowadays and expect players to come back from injuries at full health and capability.

Many on this board trash Chris Ivory because he isn't getting the same production that he once had, yet he's shown a "spark" or two in a couple of games.  He's also had injury issues.

Heck, many fans labeled Fred Taylor as "fragile Freddy" and were screaming when he fumbled the ball when he tore his groin.

My point is that RB's, especially ones that are considered "elite" don't often come back after just a few weeks.  Just take a look at Fred Taylor's career and what former players have to say about him.  Leonard Fournette will be fine once he fully heals and he has the potential to be one of the all time greats.  He's young and in his first season as a professional player.  Give him some time.

He’s like 21 lol. He still growing. I agree he just needs time like the Curry example and this will most likely be a non issue moving forward.

I mentioned this in a previous thread about injuries. I am truly concerned for Fournette for THIS season. This is something that he can get surgery to tighten up his ligaments, but for this season... all you can do is keep taping it up and hope for the best. The way a loose ankle works is each aggravation basically loosens up the ligaments, making it worse and worse each time. He has two aggravations this season and 3 last year at LSU. Weather will be getting colder, and 4nette will be leaned on more. I really hope it works out, but people have to understand each time he aggravates it its making it worse and worse.

He will be fine..yes he has a history of a bum ankle but he was fine. Wat h the replay on when hurt his ankle. It looked horrible. He was back after missing a game (inactive yes but he would have played). And then look at Dalvin Cook. He had pretty much no injury history and torn his acl on no contact. Injuries happen. LF7 will be fine
