Does anyone know where the Buffalo Bills got there name?

I was watching the 96' playoff game posted in another thread when i realized, I have no idea why Buffalo's team is called the bills.

Too many question popped into my head like

Is there some guy in Buffalo named Bill that i should know about?

Is a bill a part of the bison?
If so, then what the hell is a bill?
Is that the stupid red line they put through the middle of the logo?
Is the bill the part that makes bison faster than a cow?

I had to investigate.

As it turns out, its not that interesting. Some oil tycoon who was affiliated with the team named them after Buffalo Bill Cody, the western frontier pioneer. Bill received his nick name because he supplied buffalo meat to the railroad workers. So maybe the stupid red stripe is actually because the bison was shot in the head. That is my new theory.

But now im stuck wondering, what the hell is the buffalo doing on the helmet? Shouldn't it be some little cowboy or something?

Lol ... that's even dumber than the Cleveland being named after former co-founder and coach Paul BROWN (who the team was named after). Paul Brown later went on to be a co-founder and coach of the Bengals and took his ugly orange color to his new team.

Hey it could have been worse.

What if William Cody was named Greg? The Buffalo Gregs!

Or what if William went by "Willie?"

I'm stuck home since all the roads are impassable so I'm going a little nuts as well.  Big Grin

It's weird how, when you have the ability to go somewhere you would rather chill at home, but when you're stuck home you want to go wander. Lol. I may have to bundle up and go for a walk.

Just a note.....sun glaring off of snow and ice hurts the brain. Snow blindness is real! I had to close the blinds halfway so if I happen to look out the window I don't blind myself.

Interesting question. I always assumed it had something to do with Buffalo Bill of wild west fame. Hmm...
I'm condescending. That means I talk down to you.
