Draft Talk and Offseason Moves
|
So I’m ready for some draft talk and off season moves.
Hopefully everyone is over the loss. Now let’s talk about the bounce back for next year. What should this team do draft wise and free against wise? Can we get a capologist in here as well. I’m really wondering what everyone feels is the best course for this team next season We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! Between the draft and FA, hopefully we can land a QB of some sort (either a veteran to upgrade/replace Bortles or a young prospect to groom behind Bortles), a MLB to potentially replace Poz, a stud TE and a stud run blocking G. Worst to 1st. Curse Reversed!

I would add nickel corner as well with the expectation that we lose Colvin. A lot of BAP drafting going to be happening throughout the draft this year for us which is a nice luxury to have assuming the evaluations are solid.
Id like QB competition see if blake is going to lead us not just given to him, make him earn it.
Look for receiving te(riveria maybe) Draft G,te,s, and qb
Jags 4 Life
I would like to see them improve the offensive playmakers this offseason. In the draft I would probably go: TE, WR, QB, OG, LB, RB and unstaffed/FA punter.

It's weird looking at mock drafts and player rankings and not looking at the top guys.
I hope we can keep Colvin, I know this sounds naive, but hopefully we can give some players a little less than they may get elsewhere but be part of something special here. Just looking at Bouye last year, someone's going to offer him a lot more than we will. I want a TE if we are actually going to use them as a weapon rather than an extension on run plays, I hope we can find a way to give Poz and Mercedes an extra year but that's down to sentiment. I do wonder what it may take to get the number 4 pick off the Browns. They have #1 and #4 and I like the look of Nelson from Notre Dame. Imagine Cam, Nelson and Linder with Fournette coming through!!
No trading up! We are not one piece away! I have seen that movie and it sucked. Even with our recent non-bust picks in the first round, other than Jalen we have still done better in the second and below.
If I am completely honest I would love us to sign Cousins, but I think the cap hit would sink the Jags after next year, and we would lose basically all our current FA. I am debating whether this is worth it, but we won't get a compensatory pick for ARob if we sign Cousins so I think hes out. The next realistic option would be a trade for Smith. I don't know if hes good enough to take us any further than Bortles. So at this point I do think you resign Bortles and maybe buy low on a guy like Bridgewater or Bradford to 'back up' and provide competition. Yes, it's improvement, but it's Blaine Gabbert 2012 level improvement. - Pirkster The Home Hypnotist! Media on the Brain Link! Quote:Peyton must store oxygen in that forehead of his. The only way you trade up is if one of Caldwell's coveted QBs begin to fall. Much to the same way Watson fell for the Texans last year.

Im still not over the loss

We need a TE, interior oline, slot corner, LB, tackle depth and more.
My off-season plan for maximum success.
Let Bortles go and throw the bag at Kirk. 30 million should do it and we should on paper be the best place he can go to win now. Everyone loves and respects Blake after this year but its just too important a position to relax about. There's our QB spot sorted for the next few years. Our free agents: Sign Arob Sign Omameh to a cheap deal. He's a serviceable starter/quality backup at worst. Let Colvin go unless he can stay for 5/6 million. (He likely will get 8-10 elsewhere.) Let Marquise Lee go Tell Poz he can be depth for the vet minimum if he wants to stay. Draft Round 1: Take the best interior player/TE available. Personally would aim for someone like Will Hernandez G (would even trade up a bit) , Frank Ragnow C or tight ends like Mark Andrews/Mike Gesicki/Goedert. Round 2: Again best interior player/TE available. Guys like Wyatt Teller at guard. Move tight end and all round back like Jaylen Samuels would be perfect for us. Round 3: Best slot corner/ Lb available. Guys like Jalen Davis, maybe even Darius Philips if we're really lucky. At Lb I really like a versatile stud like one handed Shaq Griffin (his personality fits our team very well). Round 4: Tackle depth/best talent available/what ever need is left. Round 6: Upside depth Round 7: Upside depth (probably wont make team) Basically you want to come out of there with a starting guard (or two) and a slot corner that can start, a TE , and a LB. If not appropriately addressed in draft we attack said positions via FA without spending too much. Dunno who will be available but we should definitely use our new found success to try get a few vets on board on the cheap, We show less advertisements to registered users. Tag Arob, sign Cousins, sign Burton.
Let Poz, Ivory, Hurns, Lee, Colvin walk/cut to afford the above. Draft Hernandez in the 1st and Hurst in the 2nd. Dynasty.

This is a tired, worn out debate that I don't wish to spend much time engaging in. I'll clarify and then I'm done responding regarding the BAP vs. need argument. I understand more resources are spent scouting players and positions of interest, but they're not throwing out their evaluations purely for need. And you're not scouting purely for need either when you just might satisfy most or all of your needs in free agency and then you're left with a less relevant team specific big board. Teams can and do take the Best Available Player on their specific big board which is going to be different from every other team's and is going to be the result of their specific process to get to those evaluations, but it's still the Best Available Player as far as they see it. When in reality they take the best player on their board who fits the positional value and need. For instance next year the Jaguars may have a cornerback or DE as their *best player available* on their board at pick #29, but their need will dictate they select a different position. You don't just go BAP. You factor in need , positional value and also depth of talent in class. Its not as simple as "BAP". We show less advertisements to registered users. Brees. With his experience he can call all the audibles he wants. Just get him a monster line.
