NFL.com - Allen Robinson: 'Main focus' is recovery, not contract
|
With Dez Bryant potentially being available, there you go? I'm kidding because Tom Coughlin wouldn't go the Bad Moon route again. I could see Dallas letting Bryant go and engaging for AR.

There are only 2 teams playing this Sunday but lets not overlook the fact that the Eagles signed Alshon Jeffery and the Pats traded for Cooks. The weekend before showcased Diggs and Thielan. Julio Jones and Antonio Brown. ARob is not AB or Julio and no one ever claimed he was. But he is a very good WR who commands double teams and will greatly improve the passing offense. The Jags are also watching the game this Sunday from their couch. Maybe they could have used ARob against the Pats.

Of course, Robinson will want a lot guaranteed, but I wonder if we can give him an incentive first year. Which, when met, guarantees a lot in the second year and beyond. Start with a decent base (around $8mil) with incentives up to $15mil. He may not think he can meet his incentives with Bortles. I wouldn’t be surprised if he doesn’t want to be here at all.
If there was a player we missed it was ARob, he creates the perfect mismatch for us and draws double teams.
Marrone praised him all offseason and beyond for how hard he worked and how great he was performing, I'm confident we'll have him back this season. Keep him, hopefully get a QB that can make all the throws, upgrade the OL and depth, possibly a TE from the draft, 2nd year improvement from Cole and Westbrook and this offense looks really good. Letting ARob would be a big mistake in my opinion and I'm positive the FO will manage to keep him. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
I'm all for signing AR to a fair deal.
I think he's the right compliment to the young guys we have in place.

I’m fine with signing someone at QB if they’re better than Bortles. I just don’t think anyone fits that criteria this year... except Cousins who I don’t think we’ll sign. Bortles wasn’t great but he certainly wasn’t pedestrian. We assign a lot of blame against Bortles when he fails, but we ignore when QBs like Smith do the same. Since I don’t think anyone better than a bortles is available, we should instead spend the money on helping him be better. We show less advertisements to registered users. I could see Dallas looking at Robinson, but I still think they draft a WR early. I will address the need for a big WR in the draft, but I wanna keep our defense together as long as possible and to do that, we have to be smart with our free agent spending from here on out. ^ This. I agree with FBT. Franchise tag for AROB sounds like a good/logical way to go. Yeah, the Jags made the championship game without him. But, having AROB probably would've made a big difference in the offensive output in quite many games this season. It might've made the difference in playoff seeding if he was there (Jags may have gotten a 1 or 2 seed of AROB is in the lineup and helps turn a few of those losses into victories). Tag him. Add him to this championship roster and let's see what happens.
I'm a huge ARob fan but 16 million for a WR who's done it for 1 season is ridiculous. Especially when you compare the one year cap number to other players. That would put him in the same company as Julio Jones and Antonio Brown. The transition tag may be the better way to go for both sides. That'll put his number right around 13 million and will allow him to negotiate his value with other teams around the league. We still get right of first refusal and the ability to match whatever he's offered.

A Rob is far and away our best receiver. I don't know how anybody can be okay with just letting him walk.

I love ARob, if we.can get our offence on track, you can afford to.start letting the big money guys gp on.defense and find a happy medium between offense and defense.

It won’t be easy to replicate that, but with a #1 receiver on the field, an upgrade at TE, and OL help, it won’t be a huge reach. Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
