Surgery ok now what

It looks like this injury could potentially "seal the deal" as you speculated when you started the thread months ago. 

The Jags, however, have been aware of the injury since December of 2016 when Blake elected to not have the surgery and press on.  So - when they picked up his option in May of 2017, they certainly knew about the injury and it's potential to affect the option guarantee.

Recovery time is 3-5 weeks so he should be ok. Not to mention it was probably the team doctor who did it.

I guesstimated midseason that Bort was staying on the injury report all year as an ace in the hole if things went pear shaped for him.

I don't think he'd have surgery unless there was an issue but it's certainly interesting to speculate. Also wouldn't begrudge a player doing what they can to secure 20 million guaranteed with the team toy love.

If this team wins a Super Bowl in the next two years or so, it will be because of the defense, not the quarterback. That's why I'm inclined to keep Bortles. I still think he's progressing, and we can keep him at a price that won't force us to part with guys like Jack, Ngakoue, Fowler and Ramsey.

Ya, this.... dang it... I hope he is still progressing. And I hope it was the wrist that [BLEEP] his production this year.

The surgery will not factor into Jags plans. Ian Rapoport is reporting Jags plan to bring him back for 2018. I assume he'll still work with House after he recovers. He can work with Luck who's also working with House.

This could be bad since it means he won't be able to participate in Tom House's training this year.

That was my first thought as well. 

But from what Blake has mentioned before, most of his stuff out there is footwork based so he can still do that.

He should be fine to resume working with House’s group in the off season.

No one is having a meltdown, keeping Blake has always been the expectation. A lot of us are simply disappointed that the team is choosing to rest on it's laurels instead of going for the one big upgrade that could have pushed us over the top.

A lot of us are simply disappointed that the team is choosing to rest on it's laurels instead of going for the one big upgrade that could have pushed us over the top. stick with the current chemistry that just won the division, two playoff games, and almost got us to the big game instead of chasing a cap-busting free agent who's current team traded for an average 35 year old QB instead of working out a deal to keep him in town.

Oh, and by the way, they traded for a top-tier DT mid-season...why, you ask?  because they knew we were ready to win now...and we did until the refs screwed us.

My approach is to trust the front office...they got us to the AFC Championship game and this team was poised to win the Super Bowl.  We need to be very careful about what the refs did to us in the game and that some conservative play-calling didn't help as well.

This team is great and will only be better next year IMHO.

That's what we will be doing if we do minimal tweaking to the team this year now that it is good, especially at QB which is obviously the position where an upgrade could have the most impact.

Second. I hope we will only be better next year too but it's going to be a LOT more difficult next year. We won't have nearly as easy of a schedule, as easy of a division, and we won't get so lucky with injuries again. It's a very dangerous assumption to think we can just pat ourselves on the back and expect to do as good or even better next year.

Our schedule is getting a lot harder. Our division is getting much tougher. It's all but impossible to have such incredible injury luck again.

The rest of the league will be getting better by a factor larger than a decent tight end or guard will be helping us get better. Upgrading quarterback is the best way to stay ahead of the curve.

That's not even remotely true.  Putting more weapons on the field with Bortles will help this team significantly.  He got ten minutes from the Super Bowl with essentially nobody at WR that strikes fear in other teams. Add a play making tight end, help on the line, and a #1 receiver and we are talking about the Jags in the big game right now.

Some people have just hated Blake and down talked him for so long, they can't possibly change their tune now, so they got nothing left to do but just continue the blind hate. They'll take it as far as using the way he walks as a reason to get rid of him.

Yea it's almost like Bortles didn't play without his #1 WR and favorite target all year, or without his #2 WR for half the season. Getting even those guys back wouldn't help any though would it? lolololololol

Then you add another weapon or two around him and get Fournette back to 100%. How somebody doesn't possibly think this team can't get any better without throwing $150m at an overrated QB and putting us in salary cap hell is just talking nonsense
