Donald Trump: Tillerson is wasting his time negotiating with little rocket man

#1

Don’t know why the other thread was closed but I wanted to add this in.

I told Rex Tillerson, our wonderful Secretary of State, that he is wasting his time trying to negotiate with Little Rocket Man...

Don’t care either way. His actions would hold more weight if he did this with Iran.

For. Either North Korea is disarmed or Trump comes out proving himself weaker on foreign policy than Obama. Win-win.

Whether you like them or not, his unorthodox approach has caused more movement with North Korea in a little over a year than all the diplomatic efforts over the past 7 decades.  He was elected precisely because he's not conventional in the way he goes about being president.  So, yeah, I'm perfectly fine with him insulting a despot like Un if the end result is that it contributes toward possibly breaking an impasse that has been in place since the 1950s.  The tactful, diplomatic methods deployed by the last 11 presidents and their emissaries proved to be nothing more than a waste of time, and we ended up with a nuclear North Korea.

Keep in mind that for all the rhetoric, the administration has also been working back channels through China, Japan, and South Korea to pressure North Korea to shut down their nuclear program while simultaneously we were moving more military assets into the region to send a clear message that we were not going to appease him as we've done in the past.

Getting North Korea to come to the table to discuss disarmament and a potential peace deal is a good thing whether you want to credit Trump or not.  Odds are, if they don't secure a deal with NK, it's not going to be due to anything Trump has done.  You're still dealing with an unpredictable foe in the ruler of North Korea.

Ultimately, the ends justify the means.  NK has never agreed to come to the table for peace talks...until now.

Obama, the messiah, was never able to do anything other than to allow NK to build their nuclear program while basically torturing and ultimately murdering an American citizen.  In fact, he pretty much ignored NK for the most part because he was desperately fixated on trying to secure a deal with Iran to bolster his legacy. That has been proven to be a complete joke, including sending them almost $2 billion in cash that no doubt has gone toward hardening their weapons systems and bolstering their nuclear programs.

Trump wins in this instance either way since this is the first time North Korea has even blinked at stopping their nuclear ambitions and working toward some form of normalization.    The approach this administration has used of leveraging our relationships with other nations in the region to step up and help apply pressure is something no other president has bothered to try, and it appears to be having an impact.  Between sanctions and other pressures being applied, you've seen a pretty sudden and dramatic change in the rhetoric coming from North Korea.

Boy, you're sure making a lot of assumptions. You channeling Sarah Sanders?

Nothing has changed in NK and until it does I'd hold off on that Nobel Prize. We know Donald is willing to give NK what they want - recognition that they are on the same level as the United States. Their president is willing to meet with us!

I wouldn't bet the farm of this meeting actually happening.

Oh - and that money "given" to Iran was their money. Funny how you always forget to mention that.

Meeting assumptions with your own assumptions?

You understand that money, while theirs, was sanctioned/blocked for reasons of state sponsored terrorism, WMD procurement, etc.? Here is the list going back to 1981, if interested (E.O.s). Funny how the previous administration tried to bolster its legacy on giving a country their own blood money back. I wouldn't bet the farm on JCPOA changing a thing in Iran...except affording them the opportunity to boost hezzbollah, houthis, factions in Iraq, and interference in Syria. It's no secret Iran wants a second coming of the Persian Empire and will do anything to get it.

Somewhere, somehow, Donald is hoping to work this so he gets to see one of those NK military parades.

Evidently it works.

So, will all you anti-Trumpers jump on the Nobel Peace Prize for Trump wagon now? He's already bested Obama at another Presidential feat.

No negotiations are required. Kim has nothing to bargain with. His people are starving and he broke his missile launcher so the tough talk is gone as well.

Rocket Man may sign a treaty to officially end the war but he will never allow unification. He's too accountable for the atrocities being carried out NK right now. Plus China will do everything in its power to prevent it.
