Allen Hurns Deadline Today [MERGED]

without Arob and Hurns we can call more running plays. which is what they want to do. there is no madden air it out here. this is what we are a running team with limited passing. every move has been to fortify this principle.

I'm sorry... did we win the Super Bowl?  No?  Would a true #1 WR who demands attention and would have prevented teams from completely stacking the box have helped?  Yeah?  Hmm... I suppose maybe we DID need him to get past New England... since... you know... we didn't.... mostly because our offense couldn't move the ball in the 2nd half.  A Rob wouldn't have helped with that at all, though.

A Rob is old news though.

Hurns... I just don't understand the cut.  The timing of it leaves me baffled.  Had they done so at the start of FA, sure, makes sense, freeing up room to sign guys with.

March 20th?  Umm... ok... so you kept him on the roster during the FA Frenzy, preventing him from getting in on the action... and you didn't have to pay him any Guaranteed... and there's no one really imminent to be signed right now... so... what?

The only thing that I can come up with is we want to roll it over to next year, but again... why not just do it at the start of FA, have that money available, and allow Hurns to hit the market when it was hottest?

If you asked me to choose between Robinson, Hurns, and Lee... Lee would have been the first cut.  Yet... somehow butterfingers go himself a sweet new deal, and both Allens are shown the door.

Having a hard time keeping the faith this month.

People keep saying that....we should have cut him earlier so we could have used the money to sign a different WR....

Maybe the jags front office likes the group we have? Maybe they don't want to invest anymore in WRs?

Such a short sighted stance coming from so many people.

I liked hurns. Great dude, played his heart out for us. I wish him luck wherever he lands, but the NFL isnt the place to let personal feelings override smart business. These guys are trying to win a championship.

Not necessarily to sign WRs, but perhaps to keep Colvin? People keep saying our defense will kick butt but we let our starting Nickel go to a division rival so...

Again, there is a lot of "perhaps" to all these hypothetical scenarios. Perhaps, colvin wanted to play on the outside and be a #1 or #2 guy. So the money wouldn't have mattered.

We don't get to know these sides of the deals. Usually we know if there is strong interest, and then we know the money. As fans we don't know the team's or player's true thoughts on anything.

Are you kidding?! The exact same can be said about the argument that guys like Westbrook and Cole will "break out", becoming good receivers for us and replace Robinson and Hurns well. There is a thread right now debating whether or not Cole should be our Nr1 WR... Our entire moves are justified with hypothetical scenarios!

Its really not an "if or but" unless he has been injured between now and our last game.  Judging by his last game I think we can say he is finally healthy.  I remember in one of his interviews before that game he said he's finally healthy and it showed in the field

Lee, Cole and Westbrook should be able to handle the load. Especially if we start using the TE position more and keep the ground game going. And again, I can't stress this enough. We still have the draft...

Our Offense at this point is absolutely terrible for a team trying to make it to the AFCCG again. We have the worst QB in our division/below average NFL QB, our receiving core are 2 Sophmores and an average guy in Lee that has had difficulties holding on to the ball last year. ASJ is one DUI away from being out of the league and he hasnt been able to reach his potential anywhere else. I mean come on, I understand our defense is good but we also lost Colvin and Poz and the other Teams in our division greatly improved their Defense as well as already having better offensive players in key positions.
I think "Run the ball and good D" just wont cut it in the NFL if you want to make it to a Superbowl imo. There are too many IFs (Cole and Westbrook need to get better, ASJ needs to have an immediate impact, Lee has to stop dropping the ball etc...). Thats not the healthiest way to build a contender...

This just makes zero sense.  We have essentially the same skill players as last year plus an all-pro card added.  Hurns barely played last year.

We didn't "need" ARob.  Would it have been nice to keep him.  Certainly.

But he simply was not a "need."

That being said.  You're smart enough to realize that there's no correlation even though that's what you're reaching for here with the misuse of the term "need" in your "We don't need anyone else!" strawman, which no one said ever.

Hurns caught more passes than Moncrief... And we pay Moncrief more. The entire reason why people are okay with Moncrief is his potential, but thats as hypothetical as my opinion that colvin would have signed if we would have paid him a bit more than Houston.

Common sense says...

If your fifth WR on the depth chart has a market in free agency - then your top four are pretty darn good.

I don't see how Hurns ended up 5th. But whatever, Coughlin gets paid to make those calls and he did it.

Hurns is a patriot kind of pickup, and I think he would do great there. Barring injury I expect he will produce in that kind of offense.

So what.  Good God, Hurns was such a small part of the offense last year and you want to try and make it into something that will make or break this offense.  What a joke.

I'm not sure what you're asking me what I'm kidding about... It's pretty common knowledge that colvin wanted to play on the outside and get his chance to shine.

Outside of that all I said was that we don't know their true feelings, which is true, so to answer your question, no I suppose I'm not kidding.

And I'm not talking about Cole or Westbrook "breaking out." They already performed last year well enough to make the team feel comfortable in cutting hurns.

The team wouldn't make that move unless they're comfortable with what we already have, or maybe if they knew they were bringing someone else in.

Lee
Cole
Westbrook
Moncrief
Asj is gonna be catching passes now too

Hurns just was the odd man out.

It is what it is.

And has better career averages too, but lets not let that get in the way of the narrative.

I'll choose to ignore the whole money side of the Hurns debate ("if we had cut him earlier, we could've used the money...blah, blah") b/c I don't know the details and because everyone here, except Achilles, has chosen to pretty much ignore the medical side of it.

Maybe he's walking down the hall bouncing off the walls and seeing stars. Maybe he can't put a complete sentence together. Maybe he isn't the Allen Hurns you remember. I guess I have to assume everybody here has the same access to his medical information that the Jaguars have.

Same with AR15's knee. What do we really know about that? Nothing.

But it would have undoubtably made us more flexible during a critical time of FA, wouldnt you agree? Whether it would have helped us or not, it still would have made more sense then than now.

Hurns has more TDs in 1 season thn Lee in his whole career lol

With a one dimensional offense, a stronger schedule, Jags on their way to 8-8 or 9-7 and just miss the playoffs, or 7-9 losing season.

Honestly, I don't feel great about our group of receivers this year. Not a fan of Moncrief, and Lee has butterfingers. That said, we've still got Keelan Cole and Dede Westbrook, who'll no longer be rookies. And we could still draft a receiver and a tight end in the draft too. I don't think losing Allen hurts us that much. If Cole and Westbrook develop we should be better off than last year, even without Hurns.
