This is kind of a weird restructure.  Telvin didn't take a pay cut in any way and I would assume the team's plans are for him to play his entire contract.  It will free up some money this year, but if you roll it over, it will eventually catch up with subsequent signing bonus money.  This looks more geared for some sort of move for this year - whether it be some other contract restructuring to push more money onto this year for players that may not see the end of their contracts and have guaranteed money deep into it... Or some unforeseen trade/signing.

Actually, this was a very common restructure. Teams have been doing this since the salary cap was created.

In other words, if you get some of 2018's cap hit and put it into 2020, and perhaps 2021, then that loosens up 2019.  Because of the way we can carry forward the space we create in 2018.

We already had over $10M in cap space. Even if we traded up for the 1st pick without giving up any of our picks this year, it wouldn't take $10M to sign all of the rookies. This makes no sense unless we were targeting another free agent this year, and that doesn't make any sense either.

EDIT: it would actually take about $11M in that case, but I can't see not using pick #29 as part of any deal.

It makes me wonder if there are any other roster bonuses they can do this to.   It has no effect on the player, he still gets all the money at the same time he would have gotten it, it just affects the accounting.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Bouye restructure along with Linder and Norwell next year. Especially if these guys are still getting all their money, it would only make sense to keep the other guys around you.

Further speculation would make me think Bortles has a two year window to really show he’s a top 10 guys before he is moved from for a cheaper option in 2020 to keep any otherdrafted guys.

I can see Parnell being restructured as well although his number is relatively low. Still would free up something or they could cut him and draft an even cheaper replacement

I've seen such widely disparate numbers thrown around that I don't really trust any figure at this point. 

I imagine the pressers leading up to or following the draft will help reveal more info on this  -  and maybe a hint at what Cough-Well and Idzik are strategizing with the cap in 2019 and beyond.
