After Failing to Pick up a TE in the Draft
|
We can still get Antonio Gates. He's still got it.
We could sign to a one-year stop-gap contract.

Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."
If that's the case we'd be better off bringing back Marcedes.

THUR -
TEE- SEH - VEN. The man is 37 years old. That tank is running too low for my taste.

But since we basically only have ASJ and some guys at the TE position, maybe it's time for the FO to reach out, swallow a little pride, smooth it over, and bring him back. ![]() Fix the O-Line!
The fact that they didn't target a TE in this class or attempt to draft one must mean they feel pretty comfortable with who they have on the roster. I am fine with ASJ in the primary receiving role at the position and I think O"Shaugnessy is decent and we still have Koyack and Paul to work with. They might also look to move that Lazard kid over to the TE position. Or at least look to use him in a "move" TE type role even if he's listed as a WR.

I doubt the team sees not choosing a tight end as "Failing". They could have chosen any number of TE's and did not. That would be by design. Seems an odd choice of description IMO.

I saw on twitter Lazard was told they would not put him at te is why he signed with jags as undrafted free agent.
No Fun

Maybe “failing” is a strong word, but they’ve admitted they wanted to draft a tight end, but weren’t able to do so. So it wasn’t by design that they to go into this season with what they have. This is from one of John Oeser’s recent pieces on the Jaguars website... “The closest the team came to drafting one of the positions may have been tight end. "Tight end was something we were interested in," Jaguars Executive Vice President of Football Operations Tom Coughlin said Saturday. Coughlin said the team considered Miami tight end Christopher Herndon in Round 4, and called the New York Jets drafting him early in the round "a blow to where we were trying to line things up." Is Herndon substantially better than Koyack? Or put another way, are teams going to have to adapt their schemes to cover Herndon when he’s on the field? In this TE class, maybe you could answer yes with three TEs, and they were all gone in the first two rounds.
