Time for Dawuane Smoot to make an impact

#21

He flashed a couple good rushes. I was encouraged. The play on Watson was inexcusable. He should be thoroughly ridiculed every film session for the duration of the season.

If that was his only blemish, i'll take it.

Never forget the time Quentin Groves (R.I.P.) tripped over his own feet returning an interception and missed out on a TD.

Smoot was the left DE on this play, played good for the little time he was on the field

This guy was brought in as depth with coachable potential. Not to be a starting sack machine.
No pain, no gain.

Didn't you hear if your gonna play for the Jaguars you have to be an elite level player in year one. Players aren't allowed to have time to develop.

Kyle Bosworth picking off a pass and fumbling it off his knee with no one around him was pretty legendary.

I didn't know Quentin had passed until reading this. He had a heart issue that was discovered during the draft process too. Man, that's sad. R.I.P.

Looks like Smoot has his left arm in a cast.

Warning, video may have profane language.

I imagine this means he's' starting training camp on the PUP.

As for the profanity... I'm doing my best to pretend I didn't hear it.

In the vid he mentions it was coming off in a couple days. Maybe stress fracture or something from lifting?

I think the knock on him in the draft was that he was a project that would take time to develop... Not to mention he has two pro bowlers ahead of him...

I mean, it may only be his 2nd year, but he should for sure be better.

Third round developmental guy that showed a few flashes. Won't get a ton of snaps unless injury or father time affect Campbell.
I wouldn't expect much until 2019 from Smoot, but hopefully he surprises me and makes some impact with his limited snaps this season.

BTW - I thought he looked pretty good against the run when he was on the field against it.

The kid is only 23 years old, with only 1 season of being a player with light rotational snaps. He was considered by most to be a guy with developmental upside. He needs more "seasoning" (time and reps) to be able to judge his full and matured performance.

What others have said. There's a big difference between riding the pine and genuinely looking like a failure. With Campbell on board, Smoot has time to develop.

It's nice having 3rd round picks that don't need to play 70 snaps a game.
