The NFL probably needed to get out in front of this issue or face another season of political upheaval and fan backlash.
I do have a problem with Shad's "social justice" statement. Social justice has nothing to do with actual justice. It's a code word for compelled speech and forced behavior. They were screwed no matter what they did. Now, instead of cameras on people kneeling, there will be cameras on people coming out of the locker room late. My Capitals made it to a Cup final but everyone is talking about the new anthem policy. They will talk about it and argue about it for months. This isn't going to get better.

The owners have demanded to have the voices of the players protesting be silenced, by keeping them in the locker room where they cant be seen or heard.
"Why are black people always rioting, can they protest in peace?" Black people silently protesting taking a knee during the national anthem against police brutality- " They shouldn't be protesting, they hate the military, go somewhere else with that crap." End result- Confine all the protesters to a enclosed area where they cant be seen or heard and silencing their voice.
Whether someone has a liberal, or conservative viewpoint, a authoritative figure should not lock a thread for the sole purpose to get the last word in all the while prohibiting someone else from being able to respond.

The players should get around the rule by declaring that they will protest by standing during the anthem.

First off, the anthem at the beginning of an NFL game is not the place to protest. Police brutality has nothing to do with the NFL, America in general, or the Federal government. That's like picketing McDonalds because of something you find offensive at Target. Protesting during the anthem comes across first and foremost a statement of hating the US. Claiming it's for an unrelated "good cause" is either dishonest or moronic. Secondly, your #1 spokesperson and the guy who started this (probably he started it because he was upset at being benched for Blaine Gabbert and originally had nothing to do with the police) was protesting police brutality while wearing a Castro shirt. How clueless can this movement be if that's the case? "Why should I give information to you when all you want to do is find something wrong with it?"

There were 100's of NFL players kneeling so how come 99% of them are still employed?

Tom Brady could kneel in game 1 and the Pats will do absolutely nothing about it. Ramsey could kneel game 1 and you think the Jags would do something? Our day jobs are nothing like these NFL players so saying things like "Hey. You try protesting at your job and see what happens" makes no sense. We show less advertisements to registered users. Providing the players an alternative to the distastefulness they seem to have for having to stand for a minute and act like they respect the flag and country is more than sufficient for this to move out of the way and let the game move on to the entertainment it's supposed to be. “An empty vessel makes the loudest sound, so they that have the least wit are the greatest babblers.”. - Plato

In the end, it's always about money. Too many owners heard I'M DONE from a lot of longtime season ticket holders, especially veterans.

Do you feel entitled to the right to protest while under the employ of someone else? (05-23-2018, 11:34 PM)Achilles Wrote: Unless this changes, I'll no longer be watching the NFL. The justice was referring to government officials, not private business owners.
The NFL let this go on for a year, an entire YEAR. They even offered millions upon millions of dollars to certain causes to partner with the players on their "causes." This is the new Jim Crow? This is the return to the plantation? Does anyone even know the action steps these guys are advocating? Has there been a real discussion about a cost benefit analysis to the kind of Parkland style social engineering? Have they put forth a real tangible alternative to the money bail system? This has, predictably, devolved into a debate about kneeling itself (and most advocates still get the legalities of that totally wrong) and in reality that is serving as a fig leaf for the lack of substance from our current crop of neo-Marxists.
To put it simply, the answer to perceived blanket classifications (racism) isn't a counter system of blanket accusations (dissing the entire country that feeds clothes and houses the whinny genetic freak millionaires.) |
