Training Camp Twitter thread

Marrone:
Ramsey will be slowly worked in today.
Telvin taking a personal day off.
Sparano Jr and Flaherty out for Sparano's funeral, Marrone will work the O-line.

On meeting with Ramsey and his Dad in the offseason:
"Nobody wants to hang out with me. Players say yes to meeting me in the offseason because they know I'm buying lunch."
(paraphrased)

on keeping players motivated through a week of camp:
"They can get cut."

Distinct departure from the Bradley message:
"Yeah, we have a process, but don't confuse effort with results. We use the process to prepare, but you still have to go out there on gameday and perform. It's about winning football games."
(paraphrased ^)

I absolutely love Marrone.  I think he's the guy to get us the ring, and maybe more than one.

They also waived/injured OL Michael Thomas and replaced him with first-year OL Michael Dunn.

Looks like Tinker will remain the LS.

I agree and like everything I see and hear from Marrone.

Also, I've noticed a flaw of Taven Bryan, while he is extremely strong sometimes it just looks likes he wants to just move the guy out of the way but if he cant then his legs don't drive at all and becomes very stiff

Needs a little more time to strengthen his lower body. His upper body is being used to attempt to over power at the point of attack, when that fails, his lower body can not compensate.

I'm not sure that's true regarding his lower body strength. He said he can easily squat 600 lbs. I think this falls more into the technique issues he'll have as a rookie. He may be doing what you're saying, but I don't think it's because of strength.

This is the first I've heard of Lazard although I havent been listening closely.  How has he been looking? I know there were a lot of high hopes for his matchup ability and if he could sneak on as the last WR.

No, it definitely isn't a strength issue.

I've seen in the various twitter clips (I think the one where he is engaged with Cam Robinson) where coaches are telling him to drive his legs.

He kinda reminds me of Bill Belichik and Tom Coughlin with a little more personality.

Outside of Greene getting hurt (or another WR) I don't see Wynn, Lazard, or Mickens making the 53
Greene has had nothing but good day after good day from underwear until now.

Good for him (and for us)

Lee, Moncrief, Cole, Westbrook, Chark, Greene
Not too shabby of a crew lacking a "true" #1 (Although I think a couple different guys could emerge or develop into that)

Yesterday, the Jaguars moved practice back from 10:30 back to 2:30.

That move, plus the Goolsby signing was due to a slew of injuries at TE.  They pushed the practice back so Goolsby could pass his physical before practicing, according to 1010xl.

He is at least able to hold the point in these situations. But if/when he tires out in a game, he will be useless.

He's lightning quick to the line, but needs to work on technique and strength against players that are bigger stronger and faster than he is used to dominating.
Definitely not a strength issue. It is all technique with him and knowing how to use his strength and more importantly, hands. He is too quick to get inside the o-linemans body where you instantly given them the leverage and strength advantage. He needs to get lineman off-balance. With that said, he appears to have the size and strength to hold the point and be an effective run stopper. The rush will take time.

We just can’t get that TE position right. I can’t remember the last time we had at least two healthy true move TEs.

In those instances, do you think he is playing too high, not utilizing his hands effectively, some combination of the two, or something else?

I would think being quick into the OL would be a good thing (at least at face value and without considering what his assignment is on a given play).

I haven't seen too many instances of him playing at too high a pad level, but perhaps others have.

As I've indicated, the one snippet of coaching I've heard as it pertains to Bryan is that he needs to drive his legs more when engaged.

I like the Goolsby pickup though.

What were the injuries at TE?
