Obviously this has a fantasy football bent to it, but I've been thinking about this tweet the last few days. Are our WRs actually doing really well, or are we just being manipulated by cherry picked tweets and videos that obviously want to drum up hype and get us pumped for the team and this season? Sure seems like there are glowing reports across the league about how every offense is taking steps forward, and we just know that isn't going to be the case. The QB aggregate numbers that some people have been posting after practices haven't been all that great either, so I think I'm going to rein in the offensive excitement a little.

I think we're ultimately going to be in a lot more low scoring slugfests where we're praying the defense bails out a struggling offense with a touchdown or big turnover. Plenty of it because of coaching philosophies obviously, but a lot of it also because I think we're starting to get a little to rosy when it comes to our perception of the leap forward we're expecting for our WR corps and Bortles.

Man...I thought I was a cynical bastard!  LOL!  I would have to say while your theory may be possible...

1.  In practice, even the best CBs get beat every once in a while by guys who see them every day.

2.  The receivers have to be good enough to beat them. 

3.  A lot of the bloggers and media types have no reason to prop up the receivers.  I don't fall into either category, and I have no reason to prop them up.  As I said, these were just my impressions after one week.  I indicated in a subsequent post in this thread, we will get a better idea how far the offense has come along after the game against New Orleans and the practices and game against Minnesota.  Both of those teams have good defenses and good secondaries.

If so, I don't believe it to be a spin move.

I think it's kind of like a swim move designed to get the blocker off balance coming forward.  Hold a sec and I will try to find it from the twitter thread and post a link here.

But Ngakoue used it on Parnell.  If you see any clips where Ngakoue puts Parnell on his face, I believe that's the move.  It's like a two handed swim move.

So as a former high school football star--err better than decent DE--with long arms, it's a lot like a bull rush.  You push them the OL back until they settle their feet, pull them back towards you for a bit of a second, and use your opposite arm to slam the outside edge (arm) in and use a swim to get over them completely. It's helpful if your a lot taller than the opponent, otherwise you get smashed on your back.

The nickel is my only real concern.

Well, that and maybe AJ Cann’s run blocking.

I was going to mention a similar concern regarding the defense. That is, I was going to say "the 11th guy" whether that's Leon Jacobs at SLB or whoever ends up manning the nickel whether that's DJ Hayden, Harrison or that rookie nobody ever heard of before a week ago Tre Herndon. Simply put, every other player out there is already considered a Pro Bowl caliber talent, so the 11th guy is sure to be targeted.

As for AJ Cann, he was a concern of mine all offseason, but I'm rather impressed with the obvious work he's put in this offseason. The entire OL is one of the areas that excites the most especially if Cann is able to keep it up.

The giants are weak at nickel and one safety spot. I could see ASJ and the slot and Z receivers for the Jags making big plays in week one.

When you’ve got the amount of legit speed this offense has at WR and a run game commanding respect, taking a shot deep on first down certainly appears a wise gambit.

Bortles seems on pace to earn more trust from the staff this year in that regard.
Second year in the system, knows the offense, can identify mismatches more readily, looks to be more accurate after wrist surgery, etc.

IT WAS ALWAYS THE JAGS

The player that I am most impressed with is Blake Bortles. The young man continues to work hard and improve.

My biggest concern for this team is making up for the lost leadership due to losing Poz & Allen Hurns.

The depth on the defensive line is amazing. There will be multiple players cut who will be signed by other teams.

While DJ Chark has clearly flashed in the preseason, I think it will take the young man an entire year in the system to surpass the likes of Keelan Cole and Dede Westbrook. I think that Dede has the potential to be the best of the buch. To me he is a guy that can exploit holes in a defense and do a lot of the things that Keenan used to excell at on the football field,albeit in a less physical & more shifty fashion.

I am very impressed with the depth at OL, AJ Cann seems to be having a good camp & I believe that Panell is going to keep his starting position this year.

I am really impressed by Doug Marrone. It is good to have a no nonsense old school leader at the helm.

If Leon Jacobs starts at SAM linebacker then we have 1 very talented backup in Blair Brow to back up the Mike & Will positions. If a starter gets hurt, we may need to place a call to Poz.

This was the 1st draft in Jaguars history where the team drafted for the future & not the present which makes me very happy. After years of watching the Green Bay Packers, Philadelphia Eagles & Pittsburgh Steelers employ this strategy it was very refreshing to see the FO take this approach.
