Are we taking football out of football?

Thanks for posting this as it's much different than the article explaining the rule. On Fournette's leaps, he touches the ground in the end zone.  How in the world did the author of this article get "where the player began the dive" from this rule?

They may as well just come out and say they are going to throw a flag on any play that looks violent... in the HoF game they call stuff that looks to be a legal hit and then don't call stuff where the QB gets hit under the chin with the crown of the helmet... I don't get it.
No pain, no gain.

I am not saying anyone is blaming the NFL in this thread but I have read many times where people attack Goodell or the NFL for ruining the sport. The NFL really doesn't have a choice, these players are signing contracts they know from a VERY early age what they are getting into yet, they still sue the NFL. If the players want to complain about the rules being changed, then stop suing because you got hurt and have head issues the rest of your life. My father was a flatbed truck driver, he hurt himself over the years doing that job and now he cannot work because of the pain he is in. He got a small work comp check, not millions of dollars. You know what you're getting into when you get into it.

I thought it said something in the contract that the NFL is void of all liability for injuries sustained in games. I'm assuming since the new CBA that language changed and now they have to gingerly toss a guy down and help him up or it's most likely a penalty.
No pain, no gain.

Get ready for another year of controversy (last year kneeling and this year excessive flags).

To be honest, I envision a severe decline in NFL ratings (and especially attendance) in the US starting in ~ 2025. The younger generation of kids aren't as avid NFL fans that we were and they have varying interests that take them away from religiously sitting down at 1pm on Sunday to watch the NFL.

Officiating will once again be a hot topic this year. We just hope they don't ruin too many games. It's hard to argue the merits of the rule but there is a lot of gray area when enforcing it.

Gray area?  If you dive, you will be considered down right where you land just like in pop warner, high school, and college football.

if anything, this simplifies things.

It's amazing how a very simple clear cut rule can blow some of your minds.

The application of these rules will change seasons.

And this is my point. The roughest sport in the game is now hockey where you can get cross checked into the boards and get a couple teeth knocked out then come up fighting and knocking the crap out of each other while the refs just sit back  and watch the fight....LOL..The NFL is growing into the whimp league and don't think these new rules won't effect the out comes of games because they most certainly will

Oh believe me.... the powers that be are trying very much to raise enough of a voice to get rid of the best parts of hockey as well.
Every year I hear guys like Wilbon and Kornheiser cry about how barbaric NHL is for allowing fights... (and in the same breath will applaud the tradition of bench clearing brawls in baseball)
The NHL has already made a rule regarding fights that if you willingly remove your helmet to fight you'll be fined (or suspended).
They also changed the icing rule to prevent high speed board collisions (which for the most part is a small chink in the armor, but the change was not welcomed by many hockey fans)
