Quick Takes on Jags@Vikings

#1

Blake had a few miscues. Nothing too scary for this time of year though. Good stuff to get on tape against a quality defense and analyze for fixes.
I’m confident the offense will look better with ASJ, Norwell and Parnell involved.

Yeldon picked where he left off last season continuing to impress catching out of the backfield and showing good field vision.

Fournette did not show that vision and dialed up a couple more inexplicably timed spin moves for good measure. He’s so good at what he IS good at that it won’t matter much when this offense is game planning for real. He’ll get his even though he could get more at times if he played a bit smarter.

Chark seemed to confirm that he’ll contribute this year.
Moncrief was steady.

I still hope Westbrook gets the PR job like I’ve been saying for weeks.

Backup OT is a concern again.

Marrone is definitely sandbagging again and just getting a look at certain guys in certain situations more than he is trying to win these preseason games.

The defense was largely fine minus a few penalties.

Harrison looks the part.  Hope to see that big nickel package happen in reg season.

Ngakoue is the real deal, but we knew that.

Patmon played well for the most part.

Seeing Telvin whiff was funny.
Brings up how rough the run D is without the starters at LB or DT - it gets ugly quick.

Cooke punted well.

As bad as Fred Taylor is, Brian Sexton is worse.

I focused on 91 a lot, he's non-stop, even better than I took him for.

Loved Patmon, Harrison and Cooke; Paul and Herndon were a mixed bag.

My first takeaway was that the Vikings are going to regret that cousins contract and also be glad it's only guaranteed for three seasons. He's just a guy.

I laughed at the nfl.com "quick take". Called Blake "worrisome" after a couple bad throws. Hell, I figured he would look rough missing 40% of his starting o line and his starting TE. But "dont take too much" from Cousin's afternoon. I like Cousins but good Lord he looked TERRIBLE today. Definitely not work 84million GUARENTEED.

Y'all know the Blake hate is real and people are looking for anything to criticize and demean him as a QB for the franchise. I think he done okay today despite a couple of miscues and when do regular-season come he going to be great because today is the best defense he ever going to play this season besides his own in practice everyday. Go look at Aaron Rodgers games versus the Vikings and he struggles as well so I'm not worried about it.

Blake threw for 159 in the 1st half against a top 3 defense and exceptional pass defense....

He did fine.

Marrone said on the first near INT, the receiver fell down on the route. That's not Blake's fault.

Worst to 1st.  Curse Reversed!

I agree and did you see my last reply to your message to me in the game day thread because if you did it explains why Michael Robinson in particular is such a Blake Bortles haters

Oh, nfl.com also said "Bortles' uneven play is sure to lead to social media calls for the Jags to try to trade for Jets backup Teddy Bridgewater, who has excelled this preseason."

But their numbers are identical....hmmm

Harrison might be your starting SS or FS this year. Dude is way better than what I thought. I’m not sure about his coverage yet but man he can lay a lick.

Caused a fumble.

I thought Herndon played well.

Greene showed why I want him returning punts.

Westbrook fell down on one of his routes.

Yannick is such a monster. 17 sacks this year?

Fournette will give you a TD every time on 4th and 1

Not worried about the offense. Missing some key guys and still were able to score against the 1st team defense.

Yannick can be DPOY this year.

Westbrook should he the punt returner.

I don't take a ton out of Marrone's preseason strategy. Just last year we thought the defense couldn't get to the QB at this point. He seems to want to do certain, specific play calls to get looks. Hence Blake not checking out or anything.

I was telling my buddy about that just now, he was saying Bortles sucks and the offense is gonna regress this year.  Marrone is just getting guys up to game speed and not really scheming right now.  Norwell and Parnell are gonna make a huge difference and will ASJ.  Im excited for week 1.

Patmon probably made the team today. I 'm hoping that Greene kept his chances alive. Mickens flashed early as a punt returner, but I don't think he's a better receiver than Greene. Just my opinion.

I thought Kessler deserved a Purple Heart with all the hits he took--and he still had an off-the-charts completion percentage.

I'll also call it right now---Ngakoue is going to be the Defensive MVP this year.

Patmon looks like a lock to be the 4th CB and special teams player. Harrison had a strip. Telvin missed a tackle. Blake was hot and cold. Having these back-up linemen getting our QB's killed isn't helping. Fournette didn't look explosive at all and continued to ignore creases and just kept trying to run outside. Not sure if it's just a more conservative approach in pre-season or what. Didn't look as fast as last year before injury.
No pain, no gain.
