Welcome to Jacksonville.....Prepare To Be Shot

#1

This violence has to stop. The perpetrators all seem to fall into the same age group, roughly the 18-30 age category. While in the past it has primarily occurred in our North and West areas, it is beginning to spread to the rest of Jacksonville.

In all fairness, a large portion is confined to a few areas. Sporadic incidents don’t change that or mean there is a spread. This guy wasn’t even from the area and it could have very well happened elsewhere. With that said, the senseless violence in general does appear to be on the rise. I can tell you most is drug/gang related. JSO doesn’t have the resources to get control of the gang/drug growth. And as you mention, there are a lot of very young folks involved, but the range is more like 13- 22.

On a side note, you didn’t think this could go into the other discussion on the topic?

Well, in fairness. That shooter was from out of town anyway. He came down from Baltimore, Maryland or somewhere up there. So... not really all that shocked. It's a pattern though and it's getting old. I saw this coming two weeks ago. We seem to average one crazy person popping off somewhere around our country every 90 days or so.

This feels like a direct consequence of handing out participation trophies to everybody and trying to make everybody feel good instead of introducing these kids at an earlier age to the cold hard fact that the world isn't going to keep up with those lofty expectations and back rubs. That's not how it works. There's competition all around us 24/7. It's what's driven humanity since our inception. Adapt or die.

In this case. This punk [BLEEP] [BLEEP] decided to die but he just had to bring a few people down with him. We now have a generation with some cowards in it that can't handle business with their fists or take a loss on the chin and look to get better for the next tournament or what have you. It's sad and pathetic.

There's been like 20 shootings in Jacksonville THIS MONTH. This is hardly isolated to the "Mass Shooting" yesterday.

Those numbers again shouldn't be a surprise to anybody. Forbes had us ranked at 16th overall growth wise back in February of this year. They had us at 5th last year. More people, more problems though. It's a dual edged sword. Growth can be good and bad at the same time. Overall Florida is growing in general. I saw probably another four or five cities ranked ahead of us not too far from us on the map. Orlando and Lakeland were up there.

16. Jacksonville-FL Metropolitan Statistical Area
