Is the ASJ injury a new one? I don’t recall him being hurt...

He was used very sparingly in preseason. That may indicate it's an ongoing condition.
Damn.
Was really looking forward to Blake having a big redzone target.
Hope he can be ready to go Sunday.

Olivier Vernon looks doubtful and Evan Engram may not clear the concussion protocol in time.

Some unofficial giants injury updates from Monday:

Also:https://247sports.com/nfl/new-york-giants/Article/New-York-Giants-injury-update-Week-1-Jaguars-121433176/

Quote:According to ESPN's Jordan Raanan, Engram continues to progress in the concussion protocol and he is expected to be ready for Week 1 barring any setbacks. Engram suffered a concussion during the Giants' third preseason game, a 22-16 win over the New York Jets. On the play, Engram was sandwiched in between two Jets defenders and immediately helped off the field.

The Giants got some good news right away when Engram returned to practice on Sunday, the first time the Giants held one after the game. Although Engram did not practice, he took part in light jogging. As each practice day passed, Engram did more and more while off to the side with individual Giants trainers. Most importantly, Engram was already out in the light just a few days after the concussion which is always a great sign.

Jaguars coach Doug Marrone said TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins had a nagging core muscle injury that he aggravated earlier this week when he landed after jumping to catch a pass. "I feel like he'll play but you never know," Marrone said. The Jaguars only have two other TEs on the 53-man roster: James O'Shaughnessy and Niles Paul. David Grinnage is the only TE on the practice squad.

You'd think if it were major they wouldn't have kept only three tight ends on the roster.

Vernon's ankle considered a High Ankle Sprain. If I were a betting man, I'd say he's out this week.

Marrone on ASJ:

Quote:Marrone said he has been practicing recently with a “nagging” core muscle issue and was sore after attempting to catch a pass earlier this week.

“We’re just going to be smart about it,” he said, adding of Seferian-Jenkins’ status for Sunday, “I feel like he’ll play, but you never know. That’s me saying it; not him or the doctors.”

The Jaguars currently have three tight ends on the active roster: Seferian-Jenkins, James O’Shaughnessy and Niles Paul. Marrone was asked if the Jaguars would consider signing another tight end.

“I don’t know if we’re at that point yet in our process,” Marrone said

Not necessarily major but soft tissue strains/micro tears are tricky, and persistent.  As indicated, it's an ongoing issue for him, aggravated this week, after roster formation. Ramsey had surgery last offseason for a similar condition, if I recall.

You go up to make some catches, over stretch the abdominal/groin muscles, resulting in soreness and pain which can stick around for a while. He can play, but his practice regimen may be monitored for a while (especially if surgery isn't pursued, which I'd think the Jags want to avoid).  Or, it could just be a very very minor strain which clears up soon enough. We hope.

Sounds like the team is expecting the same:

Those "core" injuries man....

Some guys play through em and are effected throughout the year by them...
I could see this turning into either mid-season IR'ing OR after the season is over he'll need similar surgery to what Hurns and others have gone through when toughing it out through these "core" injuries.
Not sure why they don't call it a hernia, however.

Because everything has to be cloaked in secrecy.  Odds are, it's a sports hernia they're trying to protect as best they can.

Just read somewhere that ASJ was in Philly on Tuesday, likely seeing the Dr. that worked on Hurns and Westbrooks hernias.

Is Ben Koyack still around?

Man we are snake-bit with this position it seems lol

Well ASJ isn't on the injury report.

In fact, no one is on the injury report.

Isn't Olivier Vernon like their best defensive player? I hate guys being injured but that makes me more excited for a win this weekend.

You could argue Jenkins or Collins are better, but he is by far their best DL. JPP was the second best last year and he's gone too
