Jags Sign Flowers

I would think Marrone would know a little about the Offensive Line and whether the alternatives who are sitting at home were better than Flowers.
But then again.....Caldwell and Marrone don't have the expertise in evaluating NFL Offensive Lineman as some in here do.

innacuracy on most of his thows??? he may throw some doosies and be off target a bit but not on most of his throws maybe 4-6 of them

I know i suggested this and i think its the right move. If his back is still bad im not sure he would last at LT where lateral movment is needed .

Don't you think that a QB need some time to pick his target and throw the ball ? Not easy to make a decision and make an accurate throw when the DLine is on you after half a second...

You're right.

Losing a bunch of OL doesn't hurt Bortles at all.

The difference is he was a Starter in NY.
Here he is just our 3rd or 4th option.
Big difference......

I don't understand this argument. Sure he was not initially signed to be the starter here, but if he is in the game, he is still playing with the other starters. He is still playing against the other teams' starter. It's not like if he gets into the game, Dallas would be required to put in their 3rd or 4th option defense end.

Im not saying he wont be affected.. but bortles was throwing sone awful passes even without lineman in his face, i just hope we dont use this as an excuse amd still evaluate bortles for what he is at the end of the year.

We need a new qb, and we did before our oline got hurt

That's weird, I've seen this exact phrase three times now today. Where is this narrative coming from?

He is 60th percentile in height, 64th percentile in arm length, and 32nd percentile in hand size. He's barely above average in size, if that. He also isn't a rare athlete if anyone tries to go with that angle.

Hes 6'6 330 and he carries it damn well. He also put up 37 reps at the combine. That's a rare size and power combi

We all know Flowers is god awful, but when you're one more injury away from moving your Center, or RG over to LT, when they've never played a single snap at LT in the NFL, you know things are getting desperate.

There's no such thing as a good, or even solid LT sitting in FA at this point of the season. You have to take what you can get.

I know he is garbage at pass pro, how is he at run blocking? I know that is what he was best at in college

Perhaps this is unfair of me, but I believe this is more an indictment against Will Richardson than anything else.

Richardson has been on the team since late April. He knows or should know the playbook.

He has youth on his side.

However, it seems the Jaguars' brass would rather sign a guy like Ereck Flowers than to give Richardson a shot at getting some experience.

You might say that Richardson can't play LT.

Do you mean that Flowers can?

That's true, but they did have to sign somebody. Bodies were thin. I swear though some slob at all you can eat buffet would be better though. Flowers play has been not bad... it's been embarrassing. We would hope Richardson is ahead on the chart.

The sad part is that there may not have been anyone better to sign.

The Kouandijo (younger?) kid?

Will Beatty?
Alex Boone-who may not be able to play LT.  BTW, I'm wondering if something is wrong with him injury wise.  It seems he's had a good enough career to warrant a look from some team at this stage.

I wonder why they chose Flowers over Joeckel.  Are they thinking that at least with his bulk, he at least may be able to run block?

The fact this discussion exists on the board is cringe worthy.

Everyone seems to think Caldwell can just dial 1-800-LTACKLE and a talented player will appear.  We were desperate for someone this Sunday.  Signing Flowers doesn't automatically mean the search is over.

Were there no other options at all?

The bad part about going with the "guy you know," is that we know this guy too well - and should have known better. There must have been *literally* no other viable option. Otherwise, this move makes absolutely zero sense (unless the idea is to get Bortles killed.)

It's not an exaggeration to state that few, if any, have been as bad as Flowers in recent time.
