Why didn't we trade Taven Bryan?

Besides Freddy T....who was the last gator the Jags drafted that really worked out for the team?

The OP historically has some of the worst threads ever posted. My favorite was Trent Richardson is a Darron Sproles clone... REALLY?

Your habits become your values,
Your values become your destiny.

Bryan is eight games into a 64 game contract.

Apples.

Oranges.

^ THIS.

I know this season has led us all to drink more than usual, but this thread is the epitome of that. Bryan was RAW coming out. obviously he's not going to produce especially since he's buried on the depth chart. Fowler was traded to CREATE opportunities for Bryan. Also Fowler was gone at the end of the season, he may be a hometown kid but even at a discount we're over the cap and can't afford him, and resigning him means sacrificing cap space that would be utilized on Yannick & Ramsey, at BEST we would've gotten a 3rd round compensatory pick (and that's no guarantee, considering we'll probably sign a few guys, and Fowler may not get the mega contract that nets us a 3rd) that Rams 3rd is higher than a compensatory and is a guarantee, and we get a 5th in 2020.. and considering we traded a 5th for hyde a week prior thats a wash. So essentially we traded Fowler for a 3rd & Carlos Hyde ... that's a pretty damn good haul lol. And Hyde coming here pretty much guarantees Yeldon is gone.
Why would you want to let go of Yeldon?  He is the only reason we have some semblance of a running game and has good receiving skills out of the backfield.

He was buried in that playbook and probably couldn't come up for air.

David Caldwell drafted a DE from a school that historically produces terrible NFL talent in the first round.

Carry on...

Actually he drafted a 3-4 end or 4-3 3T DT and they moved him to end.

The school in which a player plays is really irrelevant and I wish people wouldn't say such stupid things.
The conference, or school matters little to none.

They drafted an athlete that they thought may anchor a rotation that will take over for an aging Campbell at some point.
Given the guys measurables - it wasn't too big of a stretch.  He's just really raw.  Gonna take some time.

It's not uncommon for the DE position to take two-three years to develop. (pressure and sack stats from several pass rushers over the past 12 years support that)  Plus the kid is making a position switch.

I don't get all the knee-jerk judgement on this kid.  He's got a steep learning curve and he's only just begun. If he starts to hit his stride near the end of this season or some time next year - he's easily worth the pick.  I remain patient.

Pretty much this.  I wanted offensive help but I do think Bryan will be a good one

Let’s face it, Bryan won’t do anything this year so he will have the next couple years before he could be in the same spot.

I wasn’t trolling

1. He's a freaking rookie.
2. It's rare that rookies step into the pros and play lights out football in their first season, nevermind their first half of said season.
3. The expectation we put on high draft rookies is getting out of control (as is the money we throw at them) and is why we are willing to give up on them halfway through their "freshman" season and fire the guy who drafted him.
4. There are players who didn't do great in college transition to the pros and, once they get the hang of it end up doing very well. It may be in their second season but something is better than nothing.
5. Again, he is a rookie.

He has been trash so far, I'll give you that. Dude get so turned around and lost on plays. Another 1st round pick we used to "develop" instead of taking actual talent ready to play.
